I'm planning to replace the dual mass flywheel eventually. Not in a hurry though. I do hate the sound. I'll also be servicing the DCT and replacing flex disks and center bearing since the axle has to be removed.

My 13 m6 have this kind of noise when idling in neutral, drive and reverse. It also appears when the car sliding in drive or reverse to a complete stop. I feel it is actually related to the RPM rather than gears. Do you guys have the rattle noise when increase RPM in neutral?

Rattle sound bmw m5 f10

I am having a similar rattle sound coming from the transmission area.
Any ideas on what the problem is?
My mechanic is telling me it's the flywheel shaking in its place? Is it supposed to be a shaking or stationary part?
It appears whenever the car is not moving (D, R or N) and disappears whenever I press on the pedal.
Check the sound in the following link:

No idea what the exact cause is. Sounds like a flywheel issue, but I don't know for sure. Doesn't seem to be causing any issues though. I drive her hard, I've taken her on a 1500 mile road trip. Car seems very happy aside from the noise.

I second this I have the same noise and its annoying as hell but doesn't seem to be an issue. Had a similar noise on my m4(manual) and it was the flywheel so very possibly could be flywheel but we won't know until somone tries it.

Yeah, it truly doesn’t seem to affect anything. I drive my daily at least 60 miles and she’s happy. I may address someday if I ever need to clutches.

I have the same same rattle on my 2016 M5 manual when in neutral and foot off the clutch. Noticed the noise over new year's weekend. I bought it with 12500 miles on it last year and have put less than 9000 miles on it since. My dealer is telling me it's probably the bearing. Is it common for the bearing to wear out so quickly in these M cars? Prior to this I had a '04 335i 6sp and never had a clutch issue.

For those of you with a similar rattle how long have you been driving it with the noise?

So, interesting update. My engine locked up and was rebuilt by TJ at Pure Performance in Houston. He heard the flywheel rattle as well. But after pulling the engine to rebuild and putting the same flywheel back in its quiet now. So weird, I'm 1600 miles into the rebuild and it's still quiet. It did get new transmission mounts.

Still racking up the miles and the flywheel is silent.
