I'll just say one thing. When the e9x M3 was revealed, people said it was underpowered (compared to it's competitors), it was a disappointment compared to the e46, it was too heavy, it didnt rev high enough, the torque was too low, etc... And yet the m3 is still the car to beat.

When you start getting up into the 550+hp and 500+lb-ft torque territory, is it better to implement all wheel drive?
There are several high power saloons with different approaches: Panamera Turbo awd technology vs. MB AMG 63's rwd approach. From what I've read in many magazine reviews is at some point the higher hp/torque becomes uncontrollable without adequate traction. |

Any power can be controlled by an adequate driver. M GmbH generally sees its customers enjoy being involved into the machinery. AWD would take away a substantial amount of that involvement. See Porsche Turbo vs GT2/3 RS. The "real" drivers´ cars have RWD while the everymans´ supercar Turbo has AWD. That´s the approach I would like to think BMW M GmbH has of its customers.

I have been driving this point home for two years now; this engine will not put out any more hp or ft lb than the X5/6 M. Look at my old posts here or on M5Board
Why would it? If anything, the X M trucks need more hp given their enormous masses. The extra 5o-60 hp will make up for the added mass over the E60. I believe the ft lb figure will allow it though to smoke an E60.

We all seek excess. Wretched excess, when you can get it, is even better.

Lot of people lose focus that this things makes tons of more torque then the E60 M5 did. Which is huge when it will come acceleration. As we know BMW is always very conservative with its estimates. I think the new 7-speed DCT and limited slip and huge torque this thing will easily best the E60 M5 or CTS-V.

Soooo sad- the last "M" boss was all about HP......
And yet the E60 M5 was found by many to be lacking...... The new "M" with a new boss will NOT be about HP.........and yet that's exactly what it needs.... The saving grace? Torque. It's very possible that even with ONLY 560 bhp the torque will be enough to drop the 0-60 to 3.7, 3.8 sec's...... That's a pretty good improvement over the E60's 4.3-4.4 second times.... |

Oooo...a whole 5hp over the X5M/X6M. Glad to see them put the effort in and not just pull a powerplant off the shelf...Not!
I am so excited they made it 90% quitier than the S85 M5...Not! |

I think 0-62 mph in in 4.3sec is good given the RWD setup. There is not enough traction.
Panamera Turbo takes 4.2sec WITH 4WD. So, once rolling, this M5 will fly. |

Caddy is serious about this ish, and under Bob Lutz (outgoing), GM has taken a turn, especially Caddy... and remember it was CTS-V w/automatic that had the 'Ring time, not the MT, which is possibly faster... Don't under estimate GM or Ford---I have always said, had the Mustang been engineered in Europe, it would be taking out M3s long ago....now you have 5.0 and the 302 putting in work on the overweight m3....like a bbing contest---conditioning can be the key determining factor |
