Most likely the E60 M5 will be the best M5 of all times. So far it is.

I can't disagree that the E39 is a sexy machine, and its looks still translate beautifully today....however....the F10 is a freaking masterpiece, visually and mechanically....I'd have to take the F10 hands down

The production M5 should come in this "Concept-Car-Silver" - Doesn't have that white hue shining through like a normal silver.

I love all M5's.

But I have to say for its time the E60 M5 was a lot more edgier and unique looking. I think it looked far better then the crappy E63 AMG or CTS-V.

That is what I will say about the E60 M5

Motor motor motor

I don't think still people realize how good the E60 M5 S85 V10 motor was. It easily qualified as a pure supercar engine put in a 4200 lbs sedan. The engine in E60 M5 is unbelievably good. Whenever I hear that car on the road in real life, it gives me goosebumps like a few car can ever. I wish that engine was also put in a 3400 - 3500 lbs car and it would have been epic. That is what sets it apart from any previous M car or any M car coming in the near future.

That is why I believe it will always be the best M5 ever to grace the earth.

Just this evening I was spraying off my 4Runner and mountain bike at a local car wash and a guy pulled up in a black E60 M5 with 30 day tags. I was immediately envious. I followed him out and agree that it doesn't sound like anything at idle and when he pulled away he got on it a bit. WHOOOAA, I about wet my pants. THAT IS AN ENGINE. You have to hear it in real life to appreciate it, no youtube video does it justice. The pricing on earlier model E60s is getting quite attractive too. This was a $90k + car in 2006, and they're starting in the $30k's now.

The E60 is discounted as a legend because of its polarizing looks. I did not like the E60 for many years and then I bought one last year because it came up by word of mouth and I couldnt pass up a excellant deal. I love the car.

BMW does not mess up an M model. I dont think they mess up anything. Some models are considered more attractive and timeless compared to others, but that is subjective.

While I agree that M's are all about being driver's cars, the whole M package includes design. It's the simple aesthetic changes to the M's that set them apart from their regular counterparts. Those changes usually help with aerodynamics and downforce as well. The subtle but unique changes to the E39 M5 and E46 M3 for that matter have given them a design that is aging gracefully when compared to the regular series cars.

I read that article in Evo and would pick the E39 as well, though an E28 would also be fun.

You dont think the world economy has something to do with this? Toyota Corolla also outsold E39 but that doesnt mean it is better.

Love all M cars but E39 is ancient going back to 1996. It s grandpa. Its a clean design but its 90's. Sitting in one and it feels so old. The F10 and E60 are way more modern. I see many E60 elements in the F10 but who cares, were not in tne 90's this is 2011 and the F10 rules. I like the E60 M5 way better than the E39 because the E39 is just so old and dated like Grandpa. E39 M5 prices in my town make it a beater which is why I see a lot of 18 yr olds driving them, cheap but dated speed like a 280zx turbo..

My 550i M Sport does not "Look" big, but throwing it around is NOT what the car seems to like!!!, it will cope with it but does not "like" it.
I fear the new M5 will be a "straight line" blaster ONLY which does kill it somewhat IMO.

F10 looks nice on the road, especially sport pkg 550i.
E39 lovers are living in the past.. Strange because the slab sided E39 is old and boring looking The F10 is 1000xs better looking. Love the Led halos....

The new F10 M5 is beautiful, but by far the best and nastiest 5 series and M5 has to be the hand built e34 series of cars. There amazing and just the meanest looking bmws
