Who said the boat (F10 M5) cannot drift?

Well, I took this beast for a skid pad to feel it's weight around.

Being a drift instructor, I was privileged to test drive and drift many many cars but of course for a short amount of time. A time that doesn't allow me to truly connect to the car and understand it's proper behavior. Each car has it's own sweet spot, be it weight balance, be it peak torque, steering feel...etc

Having the F10 M5 as my daily, allowed me to understand the car and learn it's capabilities and limitations. So I've decided to test it's limits by throwing it's tail around a skid pad with a proper layout that includes figure of 8.

I must say the car does feel heavy but it's monstrous torque allows you to maintain momentum at precise angles. I wasn't confident that I will manage to execute good enough drifts without having to clutch-kick or down shift just like in manuals. But the DCT was responsive enough to shift up and down whenever I wanted it to.

All-in-all the M5 does truly give you everything. It has comfort, luxury, speed, performance, looks and aggressiveness. A job well done by BMW

Enjoy!

I've been doing this with M5s every year at the BMW Performance Center. Pretty easy car to toss and control.

Wasn't it the F90 that broke the record?
