Catless Downpipe selection questions i cant find answers to

Meisterschaft sells a 76mm and a 90mm Downpipe.. the 90mm has a "reservoir tank" ..

- what is a reservoir tank on a DP?

- should i get 76mm or 90mm and which works with OEM heatshield and should i get powedercoated or wrap with that volcanic fabric wrap ?

If you are not pushing over 900hp don’t bother with a DP. Stinks up the car and does nothing.

How much horses power you can the vehicle handle safely with all stock except exhaust

I don't think it's too terrible..personal preference imo. It makes the car sound amazing even with stock exhaust.

If everything is stock (except for the exhaust) then there is no issue. Real power comes with more boost.

Sure... it makes a nice sound. But spending say $800 on the DP and $400 on the installation for sound? Upto the user

Of course! $1200 for sounds, smell, and satisfaction! But it's all about what his goals are, both can agree.

OP what are your goals?

my goal was to just do downpipes because I figured that was a good safe Bolt-on upgrade. i have charcoals removed with a good dry filter and intake scoops, a Soul muffler delete that has no drone and is nice and quiet after warm-up and that would beef that up

and then after a few weeks I was going to get a BPM stage1 to get rid of the check engine light from the 76mm meisterschaft downpipes which I found out the 76mm DPs are the direct OEM replacement to put in OEM exhaust piping versus the full meisterschaft exhaust which calls for the 90mm/3.5".

but stage 1 to get a little bit more power but maybe do bpm stage 2 since going catless..

but after speaking to BPM just a minute ago via email and they said the only downpipes that fit perfect are the OEM ones and to gut those but I think I'll just go stage one and leave the factory down pipes what do you guys think honestly?? I just want a little bit more power I want 2nd gear to be angry like first gear but im not a mad man. i dont want to upgrade clutch pack.

I had a dinan stage 2 obd flash on an n63 motor aka f10 550i which supposedly gave me 90 hp and if the bpm stagd 1 is just equal to that ill be happy (i'm hoping someone will chime in and say that stage 1 on m5 is way better)

but i'll get 305 michelin 4s after tune as i have 295's now and ill need a lil more grip.

Mike (BPM) is right. Stick to the factory. You can gut them if you want more sound but you aren't going to gain much power. Keep a BPM S1 or S2 tune and get a radar detector

I have bpm stage 2 with vsrf downpipe.
Sounds crazy abd its fast fast......
I got it last Oct 2018. So far no issue no check engine light nor error message.
Dp does create bad smell but i love the way sound. Plus only gets loud when you throttle.

I think if someone can afford an F10 m5 then $1200 for a nice sound makes allot of sense. Why spend all that money on a car to only fall short on the sound you were hoping to achieve.

But each to there own that's why I don't judge what peoples goals are.

i've had cats clog on me in other cars before so i'm going to eliminate that possibility. and i love the smell of unfiltered power

i cant go S2 without catless downpipes... But new Question: is o2 sensors going out an issue with catless DPs? does it even matter if an o2 "burns out" on me? i hope thats not an issue with a good brand like meisterschaft

Thanks for your answer...so how much boost can handle the stock engine without Clutches or the one with clutch upgrade.

LOL. Tell that to the people spending $8k+ for a Akrapovic cat back + install with minimal power gains. $1200 for DP is nothing in comparison... and will actually net some gains.

$8k for some stainless steel! That is some incredible profit margin. Surpasses Apple's ridiculous margins.
