fine print on aftermarket warranty - does this look good?

Heyo,

looks like I'm pulling the trigger on a local(ish) M5! I wanted, though, to first check with you all to make sure this was good warranty coverage. They're offering me 7 years/up to 120K miles on odo (car is at 30K).

The 7 years is going to be up next year, depending on the month it was made. I would hold off on getting that warranty.

Sorry, I should have been more clear: it's seven years from my purchase date or 120K miles on the odo. this is a new warranty purchased through the dealership. does what it covers (or more importantly, excludes) look solid for an aftermarket warranty?

I was pretty surprised they even offered me that long on a 2013, and at $3500. It's the same aftermarket company that the local BMW dealership (which I know and trust) uses, so I have to think they're legit.

Also, I forgot to point out above that it also has an optional "high tech package" that covers the GPS/nav, LCD screen, stereo, backup cameras and other driver assist stuff.

Who gave you that quote? I'm interested in purchasing a warranty as well for mine (2013 @ 58k miles).

Interesting....so the BMW dealership offers a third party warranty and not their own? Never heard of that. $3,500 for 7 years is really good based on the items that it doesn't cover. I got a quote from Delta Auto last year for 3 years/36k miles at their top coverage (similar to this one) for $2,800. I'd gladly pay $700 more for an additional 4 years!

Yeah, perhaps because it's a 2013? Also: when I was quoted a warranty on this same car from said BMW dealership, they wanted $5K for 3yr/36K miles. the car was also terribly overpriced there, so perhaps not surprising.

I have the same deal -- third party, not BMW, purchased through BMW dealer.

I would opt for the high tech package. Any of those items can get wonky and cost you thousands to repair. The only thing I noticed in the list of exclusions above is the keyless entry system. Maybe it jumped out at me because I just replaced three of the four comfort access handles on my M5. They're about $450 each, plus labor.

Otherwise it looks solid, plus you seem to have a good feeling about the provider and your dealership. Can you have repairs done elsewhere? And are there any items you have to maintain to retain the warranty, like oil changes? I have to change oil every 5k to satisfy the warranty.

Good luck.
