Not sure how I feel about this… ICE and EV cars have fundamentally different design principles if you want them to be best in their respective classes. The worst EVs for example are those that use an ICE-inspired chassis. Either they are going ICE-first and will just slap a battery back in or they’ll go EV-first and somehow shove an engine in. Seems a weird strategy.
That doesnt even get into the marketing complications. How will they position the different offerings? What comes first? What will be more expensive? What will be considered the ‘top model’? I would realistically expect them to simply offer a hybrid model, not both. Very strange. |

And that’s many countries outside the US who are trying to reduce vehicular emissions. As example, base 911 is over $300,000 in Ireland where the, now PHEV, M5 is half that… just because it’s got low emissions for the WLTP cycle. 911 & M5 are similar money with taxes removed. I imagine BMW will stick to the model of a chassis to suit all powertrains and build the motors for them J.I.T. That way the customer decides.

I think I belong in the middle of the consensus as well, which is that on the face of it another generation sounds wonderful, but the devil really is in the details.
So long as we are not going down the same road as the latest M5 I’m on board. |

It convinced me that if the next M car was electric, it’s going to be a banger. They still need to fight all that weight, however, as my M4 handled much much better than the i4 M50. As a daily driver though, it’s clear why it outsells the M340i and M440i. It’s such a good car.

This is fantastic, been waiting a long time for this. Soon, petrol M cars will look like riding a horse compared to the control and lap times that electric can provide. That individual torque control at each wheel sounds like it would be amazing for driving dynamics, too.
Very excited for the future of EV. |

The prospect of all electric M3’s in the future is cool, and ICE for those who want them.
My plan is to keep my G82 forever, so the timing of a new model will work perfectly for me. I’ll own the current car outright. Hopefully then an all electric M3 touring will be a thing, that’s got my money already if so.

It may look like that from inside the fact-less bubble.

Its funny how every car brand and forum has guys like this sitting behind their keyboard complaining about the newest cars and technology, yet car manufacturers continue to set sales records.
It’s almost like these guys aren’t even the demographic for these cars (maybe due to cost?) |

So they will be based on different platforms, which sounds way more sensible to me. Question then is whether their design will be very similar (like 4erGC/i4) or rather quite different (like 2erGC/2er coupe). Probably somewhere in the middle with common design elements but slightly different body styles. Quote:

Basically, we will only build an electric M3 only when we are confident we can fool you sufficiently and completely. |
