There are about 4-5 cars running it worldwide. Next batch will be ready soon and we can have more data.

BTW, F90 M5 switched to metal plates

Getting mine Saturday give me a week or two and i'll report back. Currently not running meth so hoping for better throttle response. Should be able to dyno and see if numbers change.

Where are these throttle bodies located exactly?

also what are the symptoms to know when they need replacement?

They are under the IC's sandwiched between the intake manifold. The IC's need to come out... not too difficult to do.

If its bad enough it throws a code such as emergency air stop or something like that. Other times just idles weird.

Way easier to access them by removing IC's

While I’ve never tuned a bmw myself, all the domestic platforms in the last 15 years I have tuned, have tables for throttle body air flow characteristics, and when changing throttle bodies, they pretty much always require tuning to compensate. As others have said, you’re changing a “known” measurement in a fixed environment, and allowing more air to pass through. In addition, has anyone actually proven the factory throttle body to be a restriction at all? The same thing has happened for decades where many feel “bigger is better” on cylinder heads, mass air meters, etc, and found that velocity and airflow properties are significantly changed, often for the negative, unless other properties are changed as well to work with the different parts (see “Bernoulli’s principal”).

I’m not saying it won’t work, I’m just saying with many other auto platforms, it doesn’t, and tuning is required to make it function properly, generally with minimal gains after all that work.

All good points although we should compare apples to apples. You can’t compare NA to FI, single TB to dual-TB systems etc.

The DME can compensate for the 6-7% flow increase similar to compensating to 4psi increas in boost with a piggyback system (ECU has no idea boost is increased other than a higher demand for fuel and the necessary timing that goes with it).

However with any system, tuning specifically for it extracts the most power. I have pushed > 1100whp on my M5 and pretty much still hold all the performance records for this platform so the proof is in the pudding.

In any case I am out of the M5 scene now so won’t be making any more of these.
