F10 M5 Fuel Pressure sensor failure

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Don't want to waste too much cyberspace with this and I have already posted on m5board, but might be of use to someone here. I had a fuel pressure sensor failure on my 10 day old F10M. It put the car into limp mode (drivetrain fault - please drive moderately was the iDrive error) and it didnt come out of it. So, It's back at the dealership now and they are ordering the faulty part from Munich

This seems to be an issue; lets hope BMW recognizes this and takes proactive steps to correct.

Sorry to hear that. Please keep us updated.

Any other M5 owners with this issue too? Hoping it's not a widespread issue like the n54 fuel pump.

I have read about 2 or 3 others who have the same but can't remember their names.

Phish, you should leave m5board alone, I left as there are too many small minded users who get more pleasure from belittling others than they do from informative posts. m5post is a more enjoyable forum to be part of

Yeh it's sometimes a bit absurd on there, but I was there first. I always check both and I think there are more UK guys on m5board, which is good for me!! This board is definitely more loved and admin'd and that's a very good thing!! Is it Jason and singularity who are the main guys?

Yes singularity was one of them, Jason might have been too, can't remember.

What about that "neonazi" yewcorner (what a strange bloke he was), he went a bit quiet after the forum turned on him after his abuse but I think he may had had the warning but then it never came back to haunt him...?

I was lurking on there a couple weeks ago. I am sure there are some good members but I saw a lot of flaming and to be honest just too much ego.

Bimmerpost is fantastic in comparison and I've been here since 2007.

Sorry OT.

OP, keep us in the loop. I expected to be some issues at the start on the M5. Hopefully the fuel pump stays good though...

M5Board went downhill fast after Gustav sold out (no criticism of Gustav intended !). Bimmerpost is much better in my view, Jason and South and the other mods/admin'ors do a great job keeping the news up to date and running a useful and informative forum.

Back to topic - I have done 750ks and I have not experienced the issue so far.

See my report http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=655244

Happened to me at 7 km and at about 650 km, twice. My car did go out of limp mode and I continued driving it. Dealership said it was just some error recorded and they had erased it, recommended me using a different fuel.

I continue using the same fuel, the car's on 2500 km now and I haven't had it since. If it will happen in future I'll know exactly what to look for - fuel pressure sensor. I linked a couple of threads to regular 5 series forums and it looks like a common 5 series issue. Too bad they haven't found a cure in 2 years and carried that 'disease' to M5.

Can I ask whose fuel are you using? Is is a Top Tier rated fuel?

Are you required to use fuel that is Top Tier in the UK or Europe?

http://www.toptiergas.com/

I can only use Shell and Petro Canada in Canada.

I know some fuels high in Ethanol do not do well in cars that are not desinged for it, our are not. Ethanol is a cheap and crappy octane boost.

I was told to use high octane fuel, so put 97 in wherever I go but generally will try and use Shell Optimax 98.

BMW did make a change from February 2012 production to the M5/M6 Fuel injection tube where the high pressure fuel sensor is.

Phish, love & hate your story - My salesman on my first test drive told me that the car has 400 bhp, then on hitting m1, max output jumps to 500, then on hitting m2, it jumps to 560...

Was this Morne?

Were you lowish on fuel at the time? I had the same thing happen on my 458 Italia a couple of weeks ago. It didn't fix itself overnight but the dealer did something very minor to it and it has been fine since. No new parts needed.

Having a new toy off the road is nearly as bad as the waiting for the car to arrive.

Very true. It's almost a hard, but a bit more frustrating!! Lucky beggar with a 458 - my favourite car, full stop. Of you're ever in London with it lets go for a spin!!

It's unlikely to fit in my luggage, but let me know if you make it to Adelaide.

Wishing your M5 a speedy recovery!
