Was color the hardest decision you had to make when ordering?

So I took my wife to a local dealership that had quite a few M5s in stock, with the express purpose of examining color choices. They had:

Frozen Black, AW, MCB, Space Gray metallic, Singapore Grey, Silverstone, along with a couple of the BMW standard colors -- pretty much all had Black merino, except for the frozen black that had champagne extended and looked horrible).

After my trip, I am now thoroughly conflicted.

I though I wanted either frozen white or brilliant white metallic. After seeing the frozen black, I am very wary of the frozen colors -- has anyone seen a FW next a FB? The frozen black really looks like its matte -- you don't really see any of the black sapphire metallic coming through. They also had a AW M5 right next to a mineral white metallic car. Trying to imagine the metallic color on the M5 was a bit hard, and I am not sure how much difference there is between brilliant white metallic and mineral white metallic.

Then at the end, I saw the Silverstone metallic. I hadn't even considered this color -- I've had plenty of plain old silver cars -- but this was the only color that really reached out spoke to me yesterday. I thought the very subtle blue hue in the silver was just sublime, which brought me full circle to wondering what it looked like frozen as well.

Sorry for the long post; I know alot of you all already went through this a year ago... any pointers on things you did that helped reinforce your final color selection?

Yes! Toughest ongoing decision Ive ever made! Frozen colors were always interesting to me, but the upkeep of them in terms of rock chips turned me off. If I were to choose one, I'd take Frozen white - take a look at RunningThingz's pics, his car is awesome. As for frozen black, not for me, i personally dont think it fits the M5, perhaps an M3.

Since I share the car with my wife since neither of us commute to work, the only color she vehemently opposed was monte carlo blue - it was just too loud for her, no offense to the MCB guys, I think its nice.

As for Silverstone, love silver, but dont like the baby blue tint it gives off in light. Titanium Silver would be my silver choice. Is there a frozen Silverstone? Frozen Silver is really nice if not.

In the end the only color I wanted for sure was Sakhir Orange interior, and I felt it looked nicest against Alpine White. Since my last three cars were black I went the complete opposite in white. However as I see more and more Alpine deliveries, Im wondering if i should change as Im probably picking the most popular color.

Reading your post, it sounds like you are leaning towards some sort of frozen color - and u shouldnt settle. Just wrap it in a matte clear bra. I vote frozen white!

Yes...exterior color is the only thing I struggled with (and it is a never ending struggle!)

Frozen white is awesome. The metallic paint really shines through in the sun. Wish I could have seen this prior to ordering. But you must allocate an additional 5k for protective wrap...so you're paying 10k for a matte paint that you hope doesn't look too matte (hmmmm).

I saw frozen silver on a X6M and surprisingly, I didn't like it much. It looked very blatantly matte. It didn't look classy to me. Somehow the frozen white still looks classy.

Silverstone is more of a safe bet. I sometimes wish I had chosen MCB or frozen white to stand out, but then I see my car at dusk or at night under lights and the lines on the car just explode off the paint. I personally love the blue hue of Silverstone...subtle, unique and rich.

Singapore exterior with Silverstone interior is also a beautiful combination. That paint doesn't stand out so much at night, but in direct sunlight it is a killer color.

Why is it that every dude loves MCB and every chick hates it!?

So...even after owning the car, I'm not sure what I would order again. Sheesh ;-)

It is my understanding that Frozen silver is infact frozen silverstone metallic.

I think I am going to have to see Frozen White and Frozen Silver in person before I order...

I was sold on Singapore Gray, with Sikar Orang interior. But now I'm thinking about MCB with Black interior... I like Silverstone and Alpine White. As it stands now, I think I'm going with MCB. The wait is killing me.... I 'm waiting for the LCI...

Yes, this weighs heavily against it. I could do a lot of other cool things o the car with that cash, all things being equal.

My GF loves MCB. It's the only color she's in favor of!

Mojave/Havanna Brown is a colour that isn't very loud, but looks classy. It kinda tones down any "boy racer" image.

If you want attention to your car, then go for one of the louder colours. But if you want a more classy look, then I would recommend Havanna/Mojave. I have received a lot of positive feedback on this colour on my car. Mostly female...

Color is by far the hardest choice for me.

Having a Silverstone M3 and a Frozen Black M3, I wanted to do something other than Silverstone and was nervous of the Frozen colors on a bigger car. That being said, I went with Sakhir Orange as I thought it would be a unique choice.

In a complete contradiction, I think Frozen Silver/Sahkir Orange with an IND Black Cosmetic Package and Satin Black Modulare B18's would be stunning. Perhaps in a couple years!

I think thats y i dont like frozen black on an M5 - just too big and too much flat black. If you like Sakhir Orange its a no brainer - itll be unique and like 1% of all the M5s out there i think.

Can't go wrong with color. Was easy to go Singapore Gray and Cohiba brown after seeing it. I am afraid of maintenance on the frozen colors. Getting the B & O or not was a harder decision. Decided to get it even though I am not convinced it is worth the money. With color, go with your gut and don't second guess it/overthink it, it is not a mental decision, you can't go wrong.

For me color wasn't that hard of a choice and neither was the B&O. I had my desires set on Sapphire Black Metallic, the same exact color as my E60 M5. Yeah, black cars are a pain in the A$$ to keep clean, especially when you leave them sitting outside for a long time, but my reasons for choosing black were pretty much tactical. A long time ago I did some research and found a study conducted by some insurance company. They did a study on which color cars were most likely to get into an accident, and which color cars were most likely to get speeding tickets or other moving violations, etc etc. The result was that brightly colored cars were most likely to avoid getting into traffic accidents and that dark color cars were most likely to be hit by another car. Conversely, dark color cars were the least likely to get speeding tickets while brightly color cars were the most likely. Hence, the reason why I choose dark colored cars, because they attract the least attention from both the police and other drivers. Doh! Haha! So far it's held true, I've had a couple of crazy people try to hit me, and haven't had a speeding ticket in over 6 years and today I drove my M5 over 150mph, I'm not kidding! LOL!

Although I have to say that if I had to do it all over again, I'd prolly go with MCB, or Silverstone II, Sahkir Orange, or maybe even Frozen Silverstone. Those colors really bring out the body lines in the F10 Chassis, which are subtle enough as it is. Makes me miss the Bangle designs of yester years.

Just my 3 cents.

I agonized over colour for weeks and almost changed to space grey. Glad I stuck with silverstone - you really need an ///M colour!

I love sapphire black metallic... but thats the color of my motorcycle and now my wife's car... it would be too weird to have all three this way.

I explained to my wife why the certain colors have "names" -- and that they are exclusive to the ///M cars. Her response was, "well then you should get one of those..."

This I very much agree with. A color limited to ///M models is the most appealing to me. Half the BMWs in California are white these days. Looks super sharp, but isn't very exclusive.

Yes by bar the hardest decision. After going thru every possible color and long discussions with my wife for weeks, end up ordering Montecarlo Blue. We wanted the car to stand out since it is an M5 plus the color is stunning with the M blue calipers, we felt that any shade of white, grey, black, silver would just get lost in the crowd of neutral colors out there, and also would not differentiate the M5 from any other 5 series. Also after owning an e39 M5 Lemans Blue and an e60 M5 Sapphire Black (black out), the Lemans Blue got more wanted attention while the e60 got the wanted and unwanted attention because of the S85 V10 exhaust sound….

IMO – Frozen colors do not show as well on large sedans like the F10 M5 except for maybe Frozen White with black accents, frozen colors look better for smaller cars or coupes….I love the Frozen Silver in my e92 M3 and FYI - it is pretty easy to mantain...

After all, it is just a matter of preference...

Color was not hard choice for me. It was between Amazonite Silver vs frozen gray. After seeing pictures on this forum, i was sold on Amazonite silver. Loved it.

If you are considering frozen white I would go with Alpine White on Sakhir interior and spend the money saved on a complete satin or matte clear bra wrap to get protection and a unique color. Down the road if you get tired of the matte finish pull the wrap. Win win situation!

I love my AW. First white car I've ever had and I love it. It hi lights all the M body contours well.
