Soft close doors, is it a must have?
As the title suggests, what is everyone's thoughts on this, for those who own a m5 and have or do not have this option?
Is it retrofit able? Indy or by dealer?

I'm pretty sure it is included in the exec package which I would not go without on an m5 just makes sense to have. As a stand alone option I wouldn't think it's needed. Nice every time I don't slam a door shut but most of the time I just close the door without thinking to softly close it.

It is part of the exec package and its something I dont care for. My M5 is one of the few without exec package it seems. But what I REALLY miss is the keyless entry, which BMW has stuck with the exec package My frickin toyota had keyless entry...

As for a retrofit, it can be done, it's been done on the 5 series forums but from what I recall, it was costly.

For me No, unless you dont plan to keep the car longer. If plan to keep it longer, then forget about it. i breaks. Not my old m5, ive had it for 7 years, buy my other cars.
Whats indispensable to me is heated steering wheel.

I have it on my 2013 m5 an I love it! It's something different an when I ordered my car I didn't know if I would like it. It's not a must have but it's definitely cool!

It comes with the executive package. As part of the package it is worth it.
It's nice to just be able to push the door closed softly and it closes it for you.

I love it. Especially if I have groceries all I do is kick twice under the bumper and my trunk opens. Soft close means no hard closing the doors

Foot swipe under center of rear bumper and lights flash and trunk opens.....swipe again and it closes.......
Also car is smart I couldn't get my trunk to close the other day....repeated attempts almost close then reopen......then it hit me ..... Key was in the briefcase....not sure if that's part of comfort access but if it is.........

soft close
I personally love it, I know it is not the essential for some ( and they are right ) but I do have it on mine and would not have any other way now, period.
The trunk feature.... makes me mad, definitely not the easiest to activate though. Over all love the extra features on my car, they just do it for me. |

I love mine cause now I dont have to worry about my kids slamming the doors close. They like the soft close. Also dont have wife closing the door twice like in my old E60 M5 cause she closed it too softly the first time. Lol

Here in oz it comes as standard. My last car, a 650i, had it too.
I dont really care if my next car has it or not. Anyone in the car automatically slams the door as if in any other normal vehicle. By then it's too late to explain they didn't have to do it to get the door to close properly... |

Love it. Its nice to just push the door and it closes especaily late at night or early morning. Guess that doesn't make sense to those with loud exhausts but I care about my niegbours and work collegues.

I love them! Im totally spoilt by them and just gently push the door and the soft-close does that rest. Not a must have but a VERY nice-to-have!
