In the market for an F10 M5
Hi all,
Moving from a 335d xdrive I’m now in the market for an M5 f10 and was hoping for some insight. Firstly is getting a comp pack worth it over a regular, does it actually bring much benefit other than 15bhp or so. When did the LCI happen? What year model should be avoided, are 2012 ticking time bombs? Any preventative maintance that needs to be done? Any common faults? Any tips or advice would be much appreciated |

This thread will pretty much sum it up and answer the CP vs Non CP questions. Also all CP's are 2014 or newer so that answers another question. |

Desirable / must have options: HK Sound (or B&O but that’s pretty rare and was about £4K) M Multifunction / comfort seats Reverse camera (surround view isn’t a huge deal better) Adaptive LED headlights 20” alloys (most CP cars have CP specific 20” alloys) Try and buy approved used from a BMW dealer or buy the BMW warranty yourself. |

They are tipping 25k and less on the AUC site but be warned that just because a car is listed on the AUC website does NOT mean it is being sold as approved used with a AUC warranty! I've seen a couple of right old dogs go through that site.

Thanks - guessing its best to avoid private sales and go with something with a warranty? Thinking of bumping budget upto 30k. Initial plan was to spend 50 on a gtr but the M5 ticks far too many boxes to turn down |

M5's come abused and non abused.Beware of ex leased cars which have been thrashed by impatient drivers when engine oil not up to required temp though you won't know this!
Private sales no problem with lower mileage and mature owners are reasonably safe,I bought mine private at 25k miles, fsh and have only had a a/c rad failure since Mar '17 which was covered by Bm warranty. I'd be wary of other cheaper warranties other than Bm which may not be worth the paper they're written on. |

As has been said owning an M5 is a lottery, same as any M car. With M5s the costs are just higher.
I think a lot of people will see M5s as 'relatively cheap' but miss the fact that if they go wrong its potentially serious. |

Original Poster - what are you feeling now a Comp Pack Car or a standard? I have the standard. I feel like the standard 20inch rims look better THAN the multi spoke Comp Pack. But the Black exhaust tips, louder exhaust and lowered ride height definitely helps I recon.
Have you seen any M5s? You driven any? |

I’d second that you should get an extended drive in the car.
It’s an incredible machine to do what it does and it’s a used bargain but your 335 might be faster in the real world. There’s never really a moment when I floor it that I don’t get the nanny kicking in (and probably with good reason). I wouldn’t dream of trying anything on against a 4wd 335d. I suspect I’d look at a blinking yellow light while you sailed away. Don’t get me wrong I appreciate it’s a different type of ownership experience, and acceleration after 40mph is ridiculous it but just check it’s the right flavour of M for you. |

Get the PS4s and get out there with MDM on, its usable from 30-40mph 80% of the time. Road surface dependant. |

Had a test drive of one. Absolutely unusable power in legal speed limits. Lovely motor, but sadly not one for me despite all the boxes it ticks.
Rs6 is next on the cards |
