It doesn't matter how fast the M5 is. I am speaking candidly here, if it had 750 hp instead of 575 and did 1/4 mile in 10.5 seconds and M3 had the current numbers, I would still pick the M3. M5 is just a different car. And I will also say this, I will never, ever, NEVER buy a 5 series or anything similar to its size and features ever again. I just learned my lesson and to me cars must be raw and less refined.

I believe most of us here would agree to this post except for considering the M3 that unrefined and raw compared to M5 I believe it is just a matter of size like you said and that you enjoy the mkre nimble feel regardless of power which is perfectly understandable especially that I did enjoy my 3 loaners and mostly picked them over 5 loaners fkr that very same reason! So don't think we don't know where you're coming from but not about being raw and less refined because that is felt because of less size and more connectedness may be and less up above all less luxury! My 2 cents I personally love the M5 but think if that same car is 300-400 pounds lighter it can drive as nimble as much smaller cars because of the M division treatment and I personally see this coming down the pipes with the G - |

I just completed a 700 mile trip this past 4th of July weekend. As I got closer to home I decided to take the back roads home and open her up a little as driving for 7 hours on the highway at the speed limit gets a little boring. The M5 never ceases to surprise or amaze me. I sometimes forget what a monster this car really is. I took a sharp turn at about 110mph and the car didn't even flinch. Downshift to second gear and the M5 felt like the little ball in a pin ball machine being shot out. Just prior to that I had been stuck in traffic at a painfully slow 5mph crawl for almost 2 damned hours, but enjoyed every minute of it because of my Bang & Olufsen sound system and uber comfortable front seats. The M4 is a great car with great performance but lacks that $100,000 car feel in every way. I came home today after my 8 hour drive feeling like I just conquered France. Not to mention that my power close trunk saved the day today in so many ways.
Can't wait for ///MPact next weekend!

Nullcheck are you ok.... I think Nullcheck is banned member FTC120 with this many thread starters about the M3 and every single thing right or wrong. I think he loves the sound his keyboard makes as he types LOL. FTC120's m/o was he didn't like the M5 and loved his "modded" 550i or whatever 5 series but then magically got an M5 and dogged his prior beloved 5 series.... then he got banned for being an idiot not too long ago.
Just a few threads he (Nullcheck) has started and remember he just joined in June. Am I doing the right thing thread Such an amazing car thread Brakes are unbelievable Warning about Merino leather Traction Issues Sound Concerns? Things the E9X M3 did better and how the AC is really weak LOL If the M5 parking issues made you sweat like a pig (you typed it) I wonder what will happen with your new car and the A/C haaaaaaaaa

Was hoping today to see an M6 or another M5 on the road but to no avail, our cars are just too rare. The best thing I stumbled upon today was this awesome looking fully straightpiped Fiat Abarth. I gave him a rev then he gave me a rev. You live in South Carolina right? I might be doing a road trip down south soon.

@Soooma I see people always complain about M5 weight and wish 400 lb lighter. if it was 400lb lighter with 600 HP and over 500 ft-lb tq, then no one could drive that monster! Our cars have traction issue by default Even this funny friend ("nullcheck") posted a thread about traction issue of M3 while she (his car ) has just 450 HP and 400 tq (and of course 3600 lb)

M5/M6 are like a very luxurious, expensive, and comfortable couch on wheels. M3/M4 is like an office chair. M5 is huge! I mean I don't understand how we can even compare these cars. It was so disproportional, my number one favorite move with half donuts for making U turns, I tried turning the traction control off once and doing that in the M5, almost destroyed the rear end by clipping the side walk. I can do the same in my M3 with 1 hand on steering and the other sipping coffee and I am not joking! I actually did do that with one hand on coffee mug! I could easily afford an M5 and I afforded it and I still went back to an M3. Now when it comes to 2 doors, its even more difficult because you could argue M5 has more comfortable rear seats, well M6 is a massive coupe with a massive door and not so much rear leg room. It look really weird! |
