Dave what do you think of the Bentley GT3R? I know its in a different segment but its piqued my interest? This video made me laugh:

Ha! You have no idea how many times I want to rev my engine while people walk by my car. Lol!

This Bentley sure is nuts! One thing they mentioned that made me laugh is the part about Bentley's being a little rip-offy. I think it's true somewhat. That GT3R is still an expensive car even though they've made it a hell of a lot more aggressive and a lot less luxurious. I don't think it's worth money. If one was looking for a proper British GT car, I say look no further than the Aston Martin Vanquish. The F-Type Coupe R is in the same segment, but it's just a little too corvette-ey to be in the next higher bracket as the Bentley and the Aston. Also, the Vanguish is almost $150k cheaper than the GT3R. The Bentley GT3R has a German engine in it too, that just doesn't seem right to me. That's like taking a Spitfire and throwing the Daimler Benz engine from a Messerschmitt 109 in it, in doing so you've taken away the spirit of the Spitfire. I almost liken the GT3R as taking a Rolls Rolls and trying to turn it into a sports car too. Some things just don't work, even though the GT3R is mega fast and handles great, it's still almost 5,000lbs. I'd get a Vanquish instead if it were me, but that's just me.

Cool thanks for the input. I borrowed a 2015 Vanquish for a week. It was a sexy looking and sounding car but it peaked there. The interior was sub par to me with the sound system, lack of normal nav (Garmin), non readable gauges, no keyless entry or go, and the non adjustable seats (3 way). The engine roar and lift off from a dig were impressive but its rolling power left me yearning for more. Probably because I'm spoiled with what I have but I expected more for a 322k sticker car. The steering was slightly numb and the brakes were mushier than what should be with this car. The handling was OK but its only (compared to the Bentley) about 4200 lbs or so. It has the ZF8 tranny but the electronics made the shifts slow on the up and slower on the down. My RS7 and Jag with the ZF were much better.

I have yet to drive a GT3R but have driven the GT Speed and I liked it a slight bit more via driveability vs the Vanquish. The GT3R has a lot of nice adds on the exterior and an OEM Akrapovic exhaust. I need to drive it and see if I like it.

None of these cars are worth the money but for the right price there is a deal!!

Exactly! Lol!

Don't get me wrong. The GT3R is certainly a sports car, where as the Vanquish is certainly not a sports car, it's a GT car. Big difference. The Vanquish a comfortable land cruiser with good numbers as you know, where as the GT3R is a monster transformed from a land cruiser with ridiculous numbers. 0-60 in 3.3s from a 5,000lb car? Nuts! I do think that if you are looking for something that is just really different, then the GT3R is definitely the place to go. I dunno, just see if you can find one to test drive and see if it speaks to you. At least it has hydraulic steering, and that means a lot in today's car world. Lol! Any prospects on putting down a pre-order on the new R8? I think they start production next Spring right?

If you're going for a Bentley, why not go for the Continental GT Speed W12

After all, when it comes to Bentley (or the VW Group)
W12 > V8 (more is better)

Vic, too bad the GT12 isn't coming to the United States. Or at least I don't think it is. I think you might have enjoyed that one. I know I would.

yes maybe so, but the R8 is still only a 2 seater.... turbo S is a 'family' car and quicker, 20k miles between services, unbreakable engine, unlimited launches...

new R8 also hasn't received the best reviews over here since launched recently and when compared with the 911 tts, F-type and Mac 570s, it came last in the group. mac coming out on top...
True but if you can afford multiple cars, then using the 911 as a family car is a complete waste of time.

To me a high performance sedan and a high performance sports cars are not either, or.

I have driven a Speed for about a week earlier this year... The GT3R has a bit more sport to it with the looks, gearing, brakes, suspension, and actual performance. The GT3R has the RS7 4.0 Audi TFSI engine and a simple tune gets me a ton of power and torque. I'm sure the Speed has a tune too but in a Bentley vs Bentley comparo the GT3R is the better performer with ease.

Again, I have to drive the GT3R but the Speed wasn't a clincher.

I don't think we can ever say a 5k lb car is sports in nature LOL. I'm thinking of the R8 too but this is now that is then

How abt the new 488 GTB? I was down at the stealership the other day and configured up a car to my liking. I love the looks at first sight. I am seriously entertaining getting a 488, but gotta let it run for at least a year before taking the leap. These things have the habit of burning up on their first year runs.

I have zero pull at Ferrari because its an order car and Ive only ever bought used. I need a bit of more functional car as well. The 488 is everything but that

Vic, I have not test driven the 488, but my sense is that the car will be very well suited as a DD. My Speciale sucks donkey balls when driven around town. The car only likes to be driven in anger. The only time it's in its element is when going full bore. I will be staying away from such cars going forward. Like u, I am likely going to buy it used this time round. The initial depreciation for such cars over here is insane. Now with the shitty global economy, there will be many lightly used specimen to be had for a sweet price.

it seems a shame to only allow one other person at a time to experience a supercar. that why the TTS works for me with 4 seats. not that I drive it like a nutter with 3 other people in it of course...

I have tried on several occasions to take my car in to Porsche for an early service and oil change by they are insisting I don't need to until end of next year... ive only covered 5k so far but will be about 10k by Oct 16. still a hell of a long time to be using the same oil in my opinion...

You can always find a private garage if you want piece of mind. I did this with my GT3 at 2k miles and my 2014 Turbo S at about 1200 miles. I like to get all the metals out since I don't follow recommended break in

Ummm need to drive one. I'll take Mikes green machine for a spin. He prefers the MAC over the Lambo. The MAC has been a long term car for him.
