I think the only thing he would miss of the M5 is the comfort of the car and also some of the BMW tech.
Not trying to bash GTS since I am already in love with this car.
I know it has DCT but not the same MDCT; however it's manufactured by GETRAG too. It's not as fast as MDCT and does not have aggressive gear ratios as MDCT. Steering also is not that much good and this is again based on many reviews I have seen and read. I need to test drive the car first but again I'm afraid of getting lost then I will be at the same boat OP is right now ....As far as power since AMG has better power to weight ratio (as you mentioned is lighter) will beat M5 in rolling but what I was referring to was power! ... Stock vs Stock M5 has about 100HP more (real world and not website claim )
Anyways, this conversation is silly since AMG GTS and M5 are not the same class at all... the only common thing they have the same is the number of wheels LOL

I had a quick, impromptu roll with a first edition GTS just like Vic55's. It was limited by traffic, but we were very even during the pull. He had me by about a front fender before we had to shut down. I like the look of that first edition wing much better than the later version integrated into the trunk lid. The GTS is a beautiful car! I'd give up my back seats if I could afford one.

The steering absolutely crushes BMWs steering. There's no comparison. It's also better than Porsche's. Very precise, lots of feel.

Steering is phenom. M5's steering is great. GTS' is same if not better. Loved the road feel.

I did not the 911' steering feel at all. It was the weakest point of the car IMO. And the fact it has a pornography of buttons doesn't help

100000% agree...

you guys have driven it and own M5's--- I own one and have had an M5 so I think our input is relevant.

M6-Coupe I am sure there are some reviews about the steering but I have seen many positive ones too. (I know you will now google search the bad ones and link me so please also link the good ones )

Never driven it. Didn't think they had depreciated that much - wasn't it a 300k car? How's the maintenance on it?

I rarely make impulsive purchases and am genuinely surprised how badly I want this thing even though I know I will drive it maybe 1,000 miles a year - if that.

I didn't go to the showroom for a GTS. I went with my parents to look for a new car for them (good deals on outgoing E class and I like the way it looks contrary to what most people here think about its shape). Saw this GTS on the showroom floor in a ribbon. We went in my M5 so I guess the sales guy saw that and offered me a drive in GTS. I took up the offer thinking what's the harm. Damn I was wrong...

Surprisingly my wife (who is not a car person) thinks it's one of the most beautiful cars she has ever seen and wants to get it!

Small wrinkle is we also need to get a hatchback for her (Mini Cooper or Fiat 500 most likely) in the next few months. Then I will have 3 cars!!!

This is absolutely possible- they are very close on paper in the numbers with the proper launch getting the lead out. Where I find my GTS to be very strong is the 60-130 range but I'm tuned.

Agreed. The Edition 1 car is much better looking with the fixed wing vs the standard car...

Nop

The McLaren MP4-12C, later known simply as the McLaren 12C,[3] is a supercar designed and manufactured by McLaren Automotive. It is the first production car wholly designed and built by McLaren since the McLaren F1, which ended production in 1998. The car's final design was unveiled in September 2009, and was launched in mid-2011.

The MP4-12C features a carbon fibre composite chassis, and is powered by a mid-mounted McLaren M838T 3.8-litre V8, twin-turbo engine developing approximately 592 hp (441 kW; 600 PS) and around 443 lb·ft (601 N·m) of torque. The car makes use of Formula 1-sourced technologies such as "brake steer",[4] where the inside rear wheel is braked during fast cornering to reduce understeer. Power is transmitted to the wheels through a seven-speed seamless shift dual-clutch gearbox.

A convertible version of the car called the MP4-12C Spider, renamed the 12C Spider in 2012, is also available. In February 2014, McLaren announced the related 650S, with revised bodywork, upgraded engine and other technical improvements. In April 2014, McLaren announced the end of production of the 12C.[5]

We are thinking whether to ED on GTS (tired of the long name so will just call it GTS). We are going to Northern Italy and Switzerland for Memorial Day. So it can be the 2nd ED in a row on Memorial Day! We can easily drive from Stuttgart to these locations and enjoy the passes. Probably the best way to enjoy this car. I still regret not having the M5 in Europe for longer though I would have been scared s*&$! In positano / amalfi with the width of the beast (did see a 918 spyder and La Ferrari in amalfi though).

Will give me more time to research as well - not feeling too comfortable of picking it up without doing any of my customary research that I do.

Re: MCL MP4-12C, It's probably too much car for me at the moment for various reasons. I am too much in love with the GTS!

This will be fun!

Is it really worth it to you for that kind of mileage? I wouldn't bother... Even ignoring the money... 1,000 miles/year just isn't worth the hassles of ownership in my view.

That's what I'm struggling with in my head. And yet I'm working on European delivery! Let's see - not sure which way will it go.

I think ED on this car is tough. It has virtually no luggage space. I could probably manage a week on my own. But with my wife there is no way I could do ED in this car. There simply isn't enough luggage space.

On a separate note, Mercedes of Mobile has a launch edition with low miles for $135k which is a total bargain IMO.
