GTR found new home on to R8.

So GTR found a new home and had the STi and Lexus is250... But finally got something a little more classy and fancy. So found a V10 R8 at a great price. Getting ready to either go to UGR [Kevin has them at about a 2 month wait time] or to another shop.

Thanks bro, its weird doing SMG, but having learned manual on the STi, I am MUCH better at SMG life than I am when I had my 2006 M5 and would try to drive it like a manual. I actually like it cause its engaging.

First time I've had a car where I just listen to the exhaust vs. the radio.
B&O little disappointed in relative to the wind noise so I wish that was louder. Better than the bose in the GTR in clarity, but for just bumping around town on full blast the Bose was better.

Suspension rougher than the GTR, and E92.

Really don't like being that low, GTR/ M4/M6 height is about as low as I'd want to go lol

Ride is that stiff? Wow. Didn't know that, I thought they were smooth. I hear you in being low, where I'm at, I'm perfect. Anything lower, is too much. That was another reason I didn't want a vette as a dd. That exhaust must sound incredible.

I actually found my 2012 R8 V10 with the magnorheological dampeners to be very compliant over the rough and soft undulations of the roads where Im at. My new R8 is so comfortable its shocking for a car like this; going over a freshly grated road for 2 miles was so nice it shocked me. Of all the cars Ive owned, I love the grip of the R8 the most coupled with the AWD system (when blending comfort as a factor). My fave handling rwd car was the 2015 GT3 but the GTS really pushes that envelope too (GT3 more compliant than the GTS).

Yeah might just be my local roads, that have paving issues the Beltways outside of Baltimore/ DC are very neglected.

I feel the same though. I've put 600 miles on it in 4 days and I lay around the house just trying to talk myself out of not driving it more. The balance between the V10 NA and the AWD system is truly something I've yet to experience with a car.

As I alluded to earlier the R-Tronic, while I won't win any dig racing street events like I could all day with the DCT GTR. Is very engaging, and very fun when treated correctly as a manual. I know your 2017 DCT is one of the best transmissions ever made, [I couldn't talk myself into spending 168 on a local one with how much I want to modify the car and drive it 30k+ miles]. But for just roll racing once modded, or having fun putzing around, the R-Tronic is tremendously engaging.

Going in for an exhaust in a week or two, when I get some free time.

This is a car I can now say even the V8 on the assumption the awd system and ride is the same and just lacking in power, is something people should try to experience.

Yeah when I hit a bump its brutal for me on our local roads. Its GTR/E92 M3 bad lol

BUT everywhere else its amazing riding and just hugs the road like no car I've ever owned.

You sold the Built GTR for V10 R8? Wow, the power difference must be greatly underwhelming. I just got my GTR wrapped and picked up a M6 GC Comp. I don't know if I can ever go back to anything without the warp speed option.

I know you are building the R8 so this might not be relevant; there are some flash uploaders for the R tronic to improve the smoothness. I personally was ok with it but the lurches tended to be annoying. The flash loader I used made the shifts much more tolerable during slow speeds (when the SMG shows is deficiencies).

If you have any links shoot it over. If its reasonably priced [less than 3k] I'd do it in interim. UGR is backed up almost 2 months maybe more when I last spoke with them, and given the cost associated with this car vs. the GTR and the costs when something goes bad its going to take me a bit to find a shop I trust.

Short blocks all over for GTRs for 3k if you threw a rod through it. Or a full stock long block from an 09 for 6-8k... The R8 guys I've talked said can only get the FULLL motor from Lamborghini heads, wiring harness and all, or luck out and find a junkyard one lol.

SO its a different league even from the GTR.

It was way less, but it was back in 2012 so I need to figure who it was again that sold it to me. It was a tuner in Florida if IIRC.

How do you compare GTR with M6?
I know they are different cars but how do you like one over the other one?

M6 is great for highway cruising while jamming to music. It's very comfortable, smooth, exhaust (akra catless) sounds awesome. Overall, an excellent car when you want some power and also refinement. I got the gran coupe this time because I think it would be an excellent car for the family as I have 2 kids. I can take the family out to eat in and still have some fun. The 1200whp GTR is just awesome for launching from light to light to passing everything that thinks it can take you. I also like taking co-workers and customers out in the GTR and scaring the shit out of them with the insane acceleration. 60-130 in 3 seconds is ridiculous.

I miss my M6 coupe as well, that's why I felt getting the GC would fill my need for a family sedan. How do you like the M4? I hated my F80 M3 until I took it to Road Atlanta. The M3 doesn't give the same feeling as when cruising with the M6.

M4 is a good car but M6 is a great car !
M4 is a fun car and more practical in traffic or finding parking spot. A nimble one with usable power/torque but M6 is a monster with great look and luxurious.
M6 has a very nice interior especial instrument cluster with lots of information available on different location of cluster while M4 has the limited data with not much room on cluster...
I really miss that scary feeling when I floored the gas pedal ...
And I agree with you 100% about the bold part...

Eh I mean the GTR was only mid 8s and power is like anything else the more you drive it the less you feel what you have [I put 20k miles on the build]. Also I sold it back in Feb. So I've been driving my Lexus, so the car actually felt fast for the first few days. I've already put 1000 miles on it. It really is a drivers car and you just always want to be in it.

Not much will match what the GTR could do, but again the lack of weight compared to the GTR, and V10 pull it has an amazing way to mask the power and feel fast. I'm sure this V10 with 1400-1500+ and 300lbs less than the GTR will feel amazing though.

Eh I think this generation of BMW while reliability and power took a huge leap will largely be forgotten, my m4, m5 these cars did everything well but nothing great, nothing better than anyone else, no claim to fame just good balanced car. And that doesn't get you a place in the history books.

I hear you.... while I had my 2013 M6 for 1 year, I dont miss it all too much. Maybe cause Ive gone thru so many great GT cars that it just doesnt plant a great memory in my current messed up car brain .

But with that being said, I did go back to my M5 after having a 2013 so there could be a day again where I try out the new version. I just hope they get the exhaust note right. I really have become a gigantic fan of pitch, tone, and sound as I run the rpms up in my cars. Today I ran the R8 out into the mid 140's off and on (Mexican toll road) and man the OEM song just can not be touched. Yesterday it was the Turbo S with the Kline catless and the pops and bangs coupled with the higher rpm LeMans shrieks is a great offset. Its ironic but I dont miss my M4 and partially due to the lack of great sound (although the comp edition sound is miles better than the non comp). I know you are considering the 991.1 GT3 and that car can sing a symphony as well.

Some may laugh at this but Id rather have the slower car (cant be too slow lol) that sounds and drives great. The M6 was a freeway crusher but it was big and fluffy to a point that I just went back to Porsche.
