F Cars never seem to have a lot of miles as you alluded to. Look at these 2010 458 milers... not much for a car almost 5 years old (miles) and values spread over 6 months still relatively stable.

The problem with the 201-2011 cars is that in 2012 Ferrari introduced the 7 yr. warranty and people gravitate now towards the 2012+. Truth to it or not, people are gun shy due to the past reputation of Ferraris being maintenance nightmares.

There goes Hyundai's claim to the longest warranty in the industry. I'm sure Sonata owners will be deserting the brand in droves.

You know Vic I think that of the upper 'echelon' of cars we're talking about here, the 12C is not only the performance winner but has to be the truly logical vehicle to buy used. The styling granted is not as 'sexy' as the Italian cars, but in the right color combo and with the carbon fibre add-ons, the Macca is a damn good looking car IMHO. Plus McClaren have done a stellar job of standing behind the early adopters with free updates to the car. If the warranty was just a little bit longer, or matched the Ferrari's, it would markedly enhance sales. Well of the 650S and remaining 12C's of course.

As much as the McClaren sounds good on paper so to speak, when you sit in it it feels like a matchbox car. It is very tiny, uncomfortable and the ergonomics are not so great. The 650s was a massive disappointment to me in person. In pictures it appeared to be this junior iteration of a P1. Not so at all. It looked every bit as cheap as the 12C. The Porsche, for a lot less money new is so much superior in appointments and class than the 12C and the 650s. I really wanted to like them but seeing them up close was truly a let down.

They steer the demand. They want you to buy a pre-owned one first. After you've bought one of those, you're in "the club" and they'll take an order for a new one on a relatively normal production timeline -~12mos. If you insist on ordering one, they'll put you on a "waiting list" until you give up or break down and buy a used one.

Coupled with their limited production, it allows them to push pricing power out a few model years. Another reason they hold value.

I'm sure they make some exceptions for guys like Justin Bieber.

Impossible to choose until driving the Huracan. Aesthetically, they are both gorgeous. Huracan will sound better with some mods.

At 275k (well equipped), I agree the Huracan is a bit underwhelming.

Agreed 100%. Sort of waiting to make a real decision until I drive one in July/August when the first is due to arrive at my dealer.

I can't garee here until I see it and drive it. It actually looks like quite and impressive car. This is also a good $60K below a well optioned Spider at MSRP. And problem with that is that in the next 1.5 yrs. the 458 will be sort of old news with the replacement due out. I could get a Spider now and avoid being caught in that but I am nowhere near ready to trade as I LOVE my TTS. I don't know. I guess I am REALLY hooked on the insane power and overall natural feeling of being intimately connected to this car when you drive it. It just does exactly what you want it to do ALL the time. You truly feel like you are part of it. I have never felt such performance in a car-not even close. On the other hand I do love the raw race car feel of the 458 and I will be ready for the change just for the sake of change at some point-just not yet.

458 old news? Its kinda like saying a F430 is played out or a Testarossa looks like dated. I don't think F cars fade like others... a red F car is just classic to me. When I see a F430 I know I can crush it but that's not the point is it?

I agree with you on principle and I get it. An old Testarossa gets me going. I go up there and see the old cars in the basement a few days every week. I am lucky to be able to view such a colection whenever I wish.

What I meant was that from my own personal perspective as a buyer that for me, I want the latest and greatest and if I bought an outgoing model I would surely and swiftly want the newer one. I was at Ferrari today looking at a couple of Spiders and another guy walks in and he and I were talking to the sales guy. He was awaiting delivery of his new 458 Spider in the next couple of months. He had seen the Speciale and was talking about how the replacement version of the 458 will likely have some of the styling cues of the Speciale (which sentiment was shared by the sales guy) and he said, "man, that 458 sort of looks "old" now". So, while undoubtedly, the 458 will ALWAYS be an AWESOME car (my buddy Tim's is INSANE. It is GORGEOUS) it is in fact the outgoing model that has been around since 2010 (actually some 2009 production) -therefore "old news" in the sense that when I park my new one (did I say that :-) next to the 458 it will be obvious which is the current year model.

Sort of same way I don't really ever expect to see you picking up another 997. Cool cars. But now old news.

On that note, the only strategy for me is to either buy one very soon so that I enjoy it as the current model before the new one comes out and then order a new one or I stick with the Huracan (the Gallardo is "old news"). Likely scenario is that I wait and drive the Huracan in a couple of months when it hits the ground. I will either love it or cancel the order. In either case, shortly thereafter I will hopefully get a glimpse at what the 458 replacement will be and perhaps opt to order it or I just wait until I see a really sweet deal on a car that I love and buy it then.

I have no desire to really buy anything else right now so the strategy of buying real soon probably doesn't work. I'll keep loving my TTS! Life is good!

This is not my experience at all. They encouraged me to order a new one because I can actually get exactly what I want and pay LESS. They do control production numbers to preserve exclusivity and keep the economy of owning one at a high level.

I actually had an option of purchasing an F12 that was there and couldn't be advertised. I wasn't ready. Ferrari so far seems to be a pleasure to deal with.
