M5 gone
So unfortunately after only a year I've had to move on from the M5! Was driving down the motorway and a nail flew up and went into the oil cooler. It dumped all the oil (well there was 1/2L left if you want to be picky) and bmw estimates a replacement engine would be £28k so the insurance company wrote it off as total loss!
Shame as it was a great car and never let me down and had just had a service too Thankfully I had invoice protection so got back what I paid for the car in full! And just picked up a 2018 M3 competition pack in santorini blue which was second hand but only had 600 miles on it! |

And here is the replacement! Ironically the road which I was driving down at the time the nail hit is called the M3 😂

That sucks! I'm glad you were ok and that you were able to get back what you paid for the car. Nice M3 too!

Loving the M3 so far and haven't driven it much. Not as refined as the m5 and the dash and things feel a bit basic in comparison but completely different animal! Can put your foot down at low speeds without the traction controls going nuts!! What's that about 🤣 |

Usually associate a nail like that going into a tyre not an oil rad and terminating an engine but glad its ended on a positive note for you and you'll continue burning up those fine driving roads round your way.

If you dont mind me asking, did you get into a tussle between warranty company and insurance company, in that how did the insurance company get involved since it wasnt an accident, did they willingly cover it as I would imagine they may have argued it was a mechanical failure and you were on your own to pick up with the warranty instead of insurance.
Just good to know how that happened just in case similar happened to anyone else. |

Had to claim on my own insurance though as there were no other cars involved but I have protected no claims, and its just classed as a collision! most importantly I had GAP cover as well so got back what I paid for the car! so when buying a car £400 for Gap cover is well worth it! |

This just terrified me!
Scariest thing I've seen this night & it's Halloween Do you think if you pulled over immediately after getting the "low oil" sign, ignition off, opened your trunk, poured a quart in(is it possible/bad in a hot engine?), and sat there that the engine could've survived? I'd assume the engine quits oil circulation when turned off |

So not sure if I could have saved it! didn't know that was the problem! when I stopped I figured maybe the sump plug had come loose (happened to a friend on his 320d that was serviced at the same dealer once). I think the odds of this happening ever again to anyone are one in a million! as how the nail got through the grill i'll never know! so I wouldn't worry too much |
