With just the registration number is there an easy way of checking if an advertised car actually has the Competition Package?

I've come across an interesting 2016 car advertised as being a Competition Package. However, it doesn't have the 601M alloys (which is something I really like from the CP), it has silver 20" 343M's instead.

Referring to a July 2016 brochure I'm not sure if that combination was something that could be ordered. I thought the only wheel choices on the M5 CP as the 601M or the 343M in Black.

Anyone able to shed any light on this? I'm thinking it may be a CP that has had the 343M wheels in Black subsequently refinished in Silver?

Ideally you need the VIN

They are also lower they did come with black alloys as you say

Do you have a link to the car?

It’s this one: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201902144913767

Poor advert in many ways, and not being sold by BMW, although they have shown honest images with some bodywork damage. Most likely traded against a Range Rover!

Not shown in the description but looks to have LED headlights and the M Multifunction seats. Like the colour too, thinks it’s Tansanite Blue?

I’m out of the country right now so reluctant to do much at the moment. If it was a BMW AUC I’d be more comfortable leaving a deposit.

Negatives:

Missing 601M alloys, really like the look of those CP wheels!

Bodywork - although I’d be keen to push to take as seen without any of the bodywork issues rectified

Non BMW AUC, I’d also negotiate to remove their warranty (I’d renew this myself directly with BMW, as its a May 2016 car).

Possibly due service imminently? Pictures only show what looks like the running in service, other service may have have been done since?

Fitted with Yokohama tyres (don’t think these were ever standard, so probably not the best choice of tyre, perhaps an indication that it wasn’t owned by an enthusiast???)

I have called them as if I was interested and they are calling me back, I will ask for the VIN but looking at the ride height compared to mine it doesn't look like it has a comp pack, I could be wrong though.

Will give you a shout when I hear back

That's great & many thanks for checking it out so quickly.

Certainly looks interesting and it appears that those Silver 343M's were factory fit too (the black ones have a code of 2TY) - re-read the PDF of the price list I had and yes you could get a CP model with either silver or black 343M's

Mileage is a little higher than I was expecting but Imperial blue with Silverstone is a great colour combination. One to sleep on...

Looks nice, but not well looked after.

Would be concerned by the tyre choice quite a few bodywork marks and no surround camera which IMO is a must (2nd button to left of gearstick) and I'm guessing its not had a service in 2 years?

I've seen it and looks as if the owner was parking it anywhere, not an option with these and yes possibly missing an oil change not wise.

Thanks - yeah aware of the bodywork and as you say the tyre choice isn’t great, indicative of someone trying to run it on a budget! I though it was odd regarding the service too, would have thought it should have had a service by now. Even stranger is that the BMW service site suggests it has an active service pack, so why wouldn’t you service it???

Uber rare option on the M5, useful for me as I have a tow bar mount bike rack

Totally agree. It’s a nice colour combination and it’s keenly priced. If it’s still around when I get back in just over a week I may take a look as I think there could be a deal to be had. A full detail / paint correction could see it looking mint. The tyres and possible general lack of care during ownership are more of a concern.

There’s a beautiful 66 plate CP car at TH Boler at the mo that ticks lots of boxes. Even has Surround View and B&O audio. It’s just too far out of budget (especially for a non BMW AUC) for even my man maths to allow it to work

Thanks M5theonlyone, out if interest, what was the interior like? I know that the drivers bolster can wear badly. If the rest of the car hasn’t been looked after I’d expect that Silverstone interior to look pretty poor too.

The lack of service and the poor choice of tyres are the biggest concern (I’m confident that the bodywork can be addressed).

Very true but if it was an AUC it would have 12 months warranty. To compare with other vehicles I need to incorporate the cost of extending the BMW warranty into my total cost / budget so factoring circa £1,400 for the first year.

100% the same as my car except I have M Carbon interior and 11,000 miles

I paid £45,000 in June last year

Cars with this spec will be easier to sell in later years

You wont find many cars with this spec maybe 2%

I would be down there if you are serious about a good M5

Given they sell very premium cars I wouldn't have an issue buying from them
