I've heard, but don't understand, comments like this over the years from UK owners. Can you explain the number plate system in the UK for the rest of us?

It used to be Once a year signifying year change, the government in there wisdom decided to make this twice a year so as NOT to signify year changes and to confuse us all IMO.
Or to make us think we need to change cars more often.

So September signifies late 2013 too 2014 Mark change; and the March plate change does signify the year.
The current plate has 13 in it,being from March to September, the next plate in September has 63 in it to the following March. Meaning late 2013 I suppose.
Next March will have 14 in, it showing it's 2014 and so on.So Late 2014 plate will have 64.

Silly I suppose but must have some logic in there somewhere anyone?.

Actually no one will care whether it's a 13 or 63 and in the meantime the car will have depreciated another £3,000!

Logical for a government bureaucrat I suppose (although it sounds more like something coming out of Brussels than Whitehall ). So do you keep the same number plates for the life of the car?

you can keep number plate for the life of a car or you can put private plate to the car and take it off whenever you want

noooo way you going to wait for more than a month, just to get 63 plate) its not AMG to wait for 63 plate
just go and pick it up ASAP, i couldn't wait for 3 days to get 62 plate and u want to wait over a month....

if you pick it up now, you will be one of the first in UK with LCI m5 cruising around

even your "profile status" says LIVE FOR TODAY TOMORROW NEVER COMES !

Took all your Valid comments on board , decide to "go and get it ASAP, and yesterday this happened to my 330 D M Sport touring

The worst part is a two week wait for a screen from germany due to the extra cameras ect in the Car.

always happens something to the car, when you are about to get rid of it...

the night i put my m3 on sale, stupid diplomat smashed my front bumper and bent my bonnet, while my car was parked on single yellow... and i have painted my front bumper from stone chips just 7 days before that.

btw, if you are around london, give a call to Topaz Detailing and speak to Mazin or Nabyl, say you are calling from Greg, they will give the best treatment to your new car, you will never regret. (best detailers in UK, if not the world)

john, is that a radar detector mounted on the dash of your 330? I thought they were illegal in the UK?

Are you blaming us?-lol!

Haven't you figured out that we're all a bunch of adrenaline junkies with no sense?

Seriously, sorry that happened. Will the dealer not accept it anyway if you write them a check for the windshield? If so, I would pay them, jump in the new M5 and forget it.

It is a GPS Rider, it tells me where the speed cameras are and all static cameras. Worth it's weight in gold here.
I had a "Lazer detector" in my RS4 and since them the UK Police are well up to speed so to speak about finding them on Cars, so I do not have one now.
If they find one on your car in the UK now they prosecute you for "perverting the course of justice" that carries a lot of clout here, so not worth the risk.
Well spotted though.

My Insurance will cover the Screen Mike I pay just £75.00, If I get BMW to put one in it's £540.00

So no to BMW and wait till one comes in.
I am not that desperate to get into the M5, a few weeks will not hurt.

No however I have had this car on Order for months now, waiting for the LCI, looking closely at it theres not a great deal thats changed, but people being people will want the latest M5 so PX time should help me a bit.

You at least have "M's to play with".

Yes, I guess that makes me feel better but the wait is still a tough one. Like I said before, it is too easy to think about what else I can do to it and if I should look more closely at a Porsche! (uh...did I just say that?)
