I would clean it out and then monitor it.

Do you have oiled K&N filters? What color is the oil?

I've pulled my intakes many times and if I over oiled my drop in filters I sometimes found traces of oil.

I noticed this too when I removed the charcoal filters. ...passenger side right? I am monitoring it for now but will take it to the dealer in a couple months if I see more oil drops on my passenger side filter.

I've researched a little into the CCV system and am trying to see if a catch can is possible somewhere inline.

If it's engine oil it's definitely blow-by. Definitely monitor it and then have dealer check it out.

It's a FI motor - some blow by is normal. Too much should be attended to and can indicate bad piston rings

i have the oem filters and i noticed the oil in both sides. it's brownish in color

i'm sure it's just blow by, but it's a little more than i expected. a catch can is definitely possible. a friend of mine had one in his f13 and recommended it. i'll definitely let my SA know when i go in for my next oil change.

Mike@N54Tuning.com Does BMS make oil catch can for the S63Tu? Looks like this platform would need it.

http://www.burgertuning.com/BMW_335_oil_catch_can.html

ECS has a universal ones, not sure if anyone has done it.

I've seen this on my car and another member's S63TU. Not enough to puddle like that, but a "mist" layer of oil in the same location on both sides

Mine has catless no tune, the other engine was stock.

I read something along the lines of the PCV check valve may be responsible, but among turbo cars its normal.

Appreciate the feedback. I know it's normal to an extent, but I'll definitely get it checked out when I bring it in for my next service. I'm going to have to remove the JB4 before I bring it in, so I'll be able to check on it again then also.

I've held off on installing my downpipes until I get it looked into further, but I'm itching to get them installed.

Replace oem PCVs not expensive and helps, saw this on a completely stock car with low miles. passenger side was really bad. You will get a little which is normal but when a lot this will help. My M6 with 40,000 miles never had this problem so I guess luck of the draw

I had the same issue on mine. Passenger side only. Dealer replaced PCV valve. I still get a mist on passenger side but not nearly as much as before. Driver side still bone dry.

It's normal and verification of a well engineered but still poorly performing system that affect the S63 non-VANOS vehicles as well.

That is the first f10 M5 pic I've seen with catch cans installed. Anymore info or link to ASR's product? I googled them and it seems like a train wreck dealing with them though. Thanks.

I've got an X5M with the S63, so your guys factory S63TU system is still better then ours, so the OP of that thread is trying to duplicate a system for ths S63. Nevertheless I've also seen oil in my intake so as these cars get older, we'll start seeing more problems and solutions as we go.

PCV valve part?

Reviving an old thread, but found this after doing a search on noticeable oil in the passenger-side intake, similar to the OP and others in this tread. Replacing the PCV seems like a relatively cheap way to possibly improve this. All I can find is the vent hose assembly, but I cant imagine that's it. Am I missing something? Is the PCV valve integrated in the valve cover, and thus not as cheap or easy as hinted at above?

The PCV valve is located in the square part of the CCV tube (its just a simple flapper valve), the oil separators are located inside the valve covers but overall are barely adequate when the engine is new, get some miles on the engine and it is inevitable to get an oil film in your Intake tubes & carbon buildup. The previous Gen S63 & N63 had a much more complex CCV system which was very prone to failure, the TU has a greatly simplified which will be much easier to install Catch-Cans on.

The key is to get a catch-can with the bronze Micron filters, this is actually what does the bulk of the oil/air separation. I have tested catch cans with and without extensively The 20 dollar units from amazon are INCREDIBLE and caught 90% more oil and water then near 200 dollar units. The machining is excellent and honestly I would have been happy to pay 100+ each for them, nobody will guess they are sub 20 dollars. Below are pics on my N63, which again is much more complex then the S63TU, you will not need the brass check-valve or a three port. But it will give you an idea of how to screw in the AN fittings. Just grab a couple two port CC's, a couple of AN fittings and some braided hose. Link below to the CC on amazon. Many choices, just make sure you get one with the Bronze Micron filter which ever you choose.
