Spoke to George last night. Are you still interested in the intakes?

Night vision M5 worked for one of my customers in Dubai just waiting to hear back if the new night vision fit perfect or had to make adjustments.

Will be sending another NV to Joe at trinity with some options hopefully I'll have something perfected soon.

MSR Intakes

hi all...

I've been a camper / lurker / leech of knowledge-sharing here. Recently purchased and installed the MSR intakes, and my conscience tells me I have to post my 2 cents worth here.

The intakes are meticulously fabricated; every inch, every detail has been thought of. The ferocious whip-lash sound when you back off the throttle, and the altered-exhaust note, have been extremely rewarding.

I live in a tiny dot on this planet, where strict traffic rules forbids enthusiasts like myself, to test the car vigourously. But my butt dyno tells me that with each proper adaptation run I put in, the car is pulling much stronger than the previous.

George, you've been a great help and a great advisor. You've been sharing and guiding me on other problem-solving issues which is 100% beyond what I've paid for.

God bless your kind soul, and thank you, very much, for such a important contribution to the M5/M6 community.

Still Adapting

George, I thought I would give you an update on my setup. Went in for a dyno session on Friday and came back with 594 rwhp on the third pull in nasty and hot conditions. This is with only AMS DP's and MSR intake. Still enjoying it.

Those are impressive numbers for only DP's and the MSR intake. No tune?

Yup. No tune yet but I am trying to get the newest JB4 Stage as soon as it becomes available. The MSR intake makes such a big difference that it took me a while to believe it. I am getting some Nitto NT05's this week and I am heading to the strip to see how good it is. But, I thing George at MSR has scienced the same combo I am running and he is going 10.7's.

Dyno happiness

Here is my 3rd pull of the day which was this past Friday. It was hot, muggy, and not in favor of good power numbers. The Dyno operator said that my car should be good for 615-620 on a cooler day.

I will update this after I get my JB4 unit and make a few runs with it. By the way, this is on one of the newer AWD Dynojet machines.

That's badass! Congrats on those numbers!!
Maybe throw an axel back on there. Wonder how much more it would be worth without a tune?!?

Don't see how 600whp is possible with stock boost levels ?! You must have an extraordinarily strong motor. Can you read the boost levels via OBD?

As long as one sticks to the same dyno before and after it doesn't matter. Everything evens out on the track or 60-130 etc.

My first two pulls were close to 550 rwhp but I attribute this to the DME still adapting to the MSR intake. I am going out to the strip tonite to try out some new rubber in the rear. My next mod will be the JB4 as soon as it is officially released which hopefully will put me in at least in the 650 to 670 rwhp range.

But, to answer your question, I personally and strongly believe that BMW de-tuned the crap out of this motor due to the ill-informed, ill-advised or just plain new-to-the-game owners of a very badass vehicle. Also, with regards to the dyno, my two other buddys that I run with have dyno'd their vehicles (a GTR and an M6) at two other local shops and their readings are within 3% of each other. The one I was on is a brand new AWD Dyno-Jet in the hands of a very experienced owner.

I have dyno'd the MSR intake with stock airbox, straight open turbo and MSR intake... can't see any difference on the dyno. Possibly works while driving 60+ MPH and reduces heat-soaking effects, but hard to quantify that anywhere other than the track.

I fully agree the car is detuned - the s63tu has 1000hp capability and we will shortly find out as we are already very close to the 900hp mark

Strip adventure

If the dyno and my better rubber do their job, I am hoping to be in the 11's.

No way the intake doesn't make power even on the Dyno. I've done numerous Dyno runs from stock M5 with oem intake verse MSR intake after two weeks of adaptation and showed gains all through the rpm and peak. Also same M5 showing .5 second Vbox reduction and running against another M5 with jb3 3.5 boost exhaust and upgraded stock intake running the same times at the track with identical 60ft. His M5 showed 630whp on the Dyno while mine showed 580whp proving the intake didn't show its true potential on the Dyno but did at the track. After our race he installed the intake and went back to the track knocking off .5 seconds in the 1/4 and gaining 4-5 mph. He can attest for his own review. As for my fully modded M6 it made even higher gains do to less restrictive setup of Catless DP and MSR muffler delete.

As for running stock intake and MSR intake don't know how your tests were performed and no way the stock intake will make the same power as the MSR intake above 60mph otherwise people wouldn't get misfire codes without adapting properly or even car lagging in the upper gears till fully adapted.

Anyway good luck at the track and with your set up you should be 11.7-11.8 121-122 mph

My M5 with MSR intake only, ran 11.9 119 mph 1.98 - 2.0 60ft
