Bit rough that if you buy a car privately you must get it NYSI'd again irrespective if it just had a full years test done with the previous keeper. Sorry can't help you with catless d/pipes but over here you have to put the cat equipped pipes back on for it to pass emission test.

You're trying to pass NY STATE inspection or NY CITY? Have you scanned the car with a generic scanner to see what readiness monitors are/are not set? Do you have stored codes? Otherwise, the only other part of the inspection related to exhaust emissions is a visual inspection. If the inspector doesn't know what to look for on an F10 M5 or more likely, doesn't care, then your only worry is the computer side of things.

It's a different story in NYC, AFAIK. You might have a tailpipe sniffer. If that's the case, there's no way to pass without cats.

Unfortunately (and as you probably know) you can only have 1 monitor not set. How quickly does the CEL come on when you remove the tune? You might be able to squeeze enough miles in to get the monitors to set prior to the light coming on. Otherwise you're looking at buying a set of used cats to swap in once per year. There are probably some coding tricks to get it working as well.

Good luck

I had the same problem with my M4. I live in New York also. Jb4 with downpipes and had 2 not ready codes.

I turned off the jb4 and got a few miles in. Brought it back for inspection and still had 2 not ready codes without the cel on.

I want downpipes for my M6 but I hate to have to install and remove every year.
