Anti Dazzle and Variable light distribution.
Hey guys, I decided to code in Anti Dazzle and VLD into my car, it ended up working great and the first test drive on the way in to work this morning was spectacular! Just wanted to put a feeler out there how many of you had coded it and it turned out well, from what I read on some other forum posts was that it was 50/50 of it working well. Let me know, I have a 2015 m5 competition and have screenshots of the code I used if anyone wants to give it a shot!

What is this coding? Any pictures or video? I have Carly but I haven't seen that one yet.

Here you are, I personally did it on E-Sys and don't know anything about Carly, next thing to note is your modules might be different for your car. Personal experience so far is very positive, I drive 27 miles one way on way to work in the morning and haven't been flashed by someone yet. Seeing them do their thing is incredible. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I have adaptive led headlights, it actually will aim the high beams around other cars so they aren't blinded but at the same time the road around them is lighted. If you live in a city and dont leave it often the feature doesnt work the best(same as the auto highbeams) but I commute out of the city to my work place and it is nice for the morning. I should say that in Europe this is what that button does, it's really just an extension of the same program that is already in there. Which is why on your build sheet it say it decodes it.

Doesn’t the auto high-beam do exactly as you’ve stated below by continuing to work without blinding oncoming vehicles and the vehicle in front of you?
Is this decoding so that one doesn’t need to push a button in the left hand stalk to turn it on? Seems like a lot of steps to do just to be able to leave it on every time vs pushing the button for the auto high beam in the left hand stalk Sorry, am still not getting it Quote:

I have had the anti-dazzle coded on a F80 M3 and now my F10 M5. It is a feature that is both useful and amazing to watch.
Instead of trying to explain it, here is a link to a video that may show it best: Like the author noted, not the best in the city or well lit areas but works great on the back roads with occasional traffic. |

Bimmercode can apparently do this, and it was decided due to a law pass in 1968 saying there has to be a physical button that controls your low and high beams on your car. This is almost entirely autonomous so it is considered illegal, also I believe some guy posted a thread on this forum about doing it with bimmercode, I'll let you know if I can find the thread.

Agree with M5Yams, seems that it may be legal in Europe but the US DoT has not approved for use in the US. At least that is what I have read on the forums...
When I coded my F80 M3 I went ahead and did it myself, took the time to download (for free) E-SYS and purchased a cable to hook E-SYS from my laptop to the OBD connector on my car. It took about an hour to code once I was in. When I purchased my F10 M5, I just paid someone to code. They created a remote session to my laptop which was already connected to my car and it took them about 10 minutes to code. It was much easier for them since they do it on a daily basis. I did have bimmercode at the time but did not see this in the list of coding offered. They might have changed it though. |

Guys, I have a thread here talking all about it. If you prefer E-sys, that's fine. But there's a way easier way to do it via BimmerCode. Check it out, all the info is here:

You're welcome. Yeah I was certain that most people would love to code the headlights to operate as they were intended. You only truly understand or appreciate the engineering once you see them in action.
When I first got my car I thought oh great. If I really want to code this car, I'm going to have to figure out all about this E-sys stuff. With 12 yrs of experience hacking software and modding a previous car I had, I thought ok, been through this kind of complexity before. It's doable, not impossible. But time consuming, so I wouldn't call it enjoyable. But the price of reaching a goal. BimmerCode has been a godsend, a gamechanger. It's taken care of all my coding needs. So glad we have a solution that works with such ease.

Thank you all for all of the information! I didn’t realize there was an expert mode. Thank you for all of the details on how to do it, I think this is cool enough to give me a reason to finally pull the trigger on bimmercode. I bought bimmerlink for the the exhaust flaps, now it’s time for both I guess. Thanks again!

You're welcome guys. This forum has given me tons of enlightenment about my M5. Good to spread the knowledge around.
Totally agree that BimmerLink is a must have as well. Every BMW owner should have both apps.

Totally agreed, BimmerCode and BimmerLink are must haves for all BMW enthusiasts. And I'm glad to get this feature as a standard setup in Germany, I can't buy another car without this functionality!

I coded mine with BimmerCode in expert mode. Let's just say pushing the button every key cycle gets annoying so coding it to be automatically on instead is much more convenient. As far as functionality, they're hit in miss sometimes in city driving but work flawlessly out in the country or back road. The led lighting REALLY illuminates the road way compared to the hids of the past.
