Carbon build-up (78K miles) and spark plug change
I got around to changing my spark plugs today. It wasn't a difficult job at all, but it took me 3 hours since it was my first time and I took pictures to see the carbon build-up.
My throttle response was sluggish most days and I knew it was time to change these plugs. The car now responds a little better. Gear shifts seem to be crisper and back to the way it was originally. All in all I'm pleased but I have to do something about the build-up. Basic meth setup? Any suggestions? I'm not looking to add anymore power, but to only burn off this carbon and keep the engine clean. Mods: Dinan Stage 2 ECU, resonator delete. Mileage: 78400 miles Special tool used: 14mm x 12 Pt. Thin Wall Spark Plug Socket Here are the pictures: #5 #6 #7 #8 Driver side turbo #1 #2 #3 #4 Passenger side turbo |

You can just use water injection. That'll help. And also drive the car harder (i.e. rev it all the way out to 7,200rpm more frequently).

Thanks for the info. An oil catch cans is also on my list of things. I've seen some threads not too long about it. |

carbon build up
For your carbon build up have you tried any valve clean fuel additives? I have added Liqui Moly Valve clean once after a fill up at gas station. It says it can also be injected via vacuum line. Has anyone had walnut blasting done on the S63 or N63 yet?

Cleaners don't work on direct injection engines.

Good catch! Has anyone tried CRC GDI Intake Valve Cleaner? It says you spray it directly through the throttle body. If throttle body is not easily accessible, spray PAST the mass air flow sensor but DO NOT spray the MAF sensor.
