Thanks for the advice, didn't know you sold yours. I don't plan to though they are a great way to free up some $$$. I like having 3 sets of wheels for my builds; stock, a go set, and a show set. Since the FIR's are my go set I went ahead and purchased a show set. Still BBS though and it has taken me almost 3 years to source them.

It was either super rare wheels or clutches. The wheels won.

Hey Kimo! Any updates on the car? I always love reading through this journal but want to see more lol!

Also wanted to ask, how did you like the combination of catless DPs along with the Eisenmann midpipes with cats welded in? Did you run that with a Sport or Race axleback? I currently have an Eisenmann race and am shying away from catless because I don't want drone or the smell associated with no cats. Welding them into the midpipe is an interesting option versus doing a catted option such as AMS. Can you let us know your experience with that set up and by chance to do you have any videos? Thanks!

If you dont mind sharing, how did you bend a rod? And also whats the ball park to repair....sounds like you are replacing parts as well. This is what happened to me and my old evo.....I windowed the block and it was gonna cost the same to go OEM or go big horsepower.

Needless to say I went big.....flew too close to the sun and got burnt. I loved the original wheels. this current set......meh. Either way I love watching this journey. You have great taste in mods and wheels (and cars).

Besides the wheels arriving no updates on the car. Still saving funds and about to enter part procurement mode. Have half-shafts, driveshaft, clutches, turbos, etc. to get before I start with the motor. I want to be completely ready with all necessary parts before the tear down begins.


Regarding exhaust I loved it. Was a similar setup to how I did my X5M. I have sport right now and it does a good job of keeping things mellow. Almost too mellow. I might switch back to a race after the build. No smell either, which is always a plus.

We think it was an injector that stuck open. Not sure though, won't know for sure until tear down. Since I'm committing to a built motor I'm honestly not even going to worry about it. When the engine gets built I'm sure the builders will tell me exactly how it happened. Thanks for the compliments on the wheels!

You must have a sixth sense lol. Car is going into the shop this Saturday and the motor will be going to Texas within a week or two. 👍

man, i can only imagine what you pay for your mods living in HI.. and shipping a motor to Texas? haa.. wtf. with all your mods and buying the m5 new i couldnt believe you had to save up to get the motor rebuilt.

but i just wanted to write that i commented recently on a thread bc ive been reading on the m5boards obsessively for 2 years now and ive kept a mental note that almost all blown engines and bent rods have had one thing in common: bootmod3

theres is no accountability with OTS (off the shelf) maps.. so BOOM goes yo motor
I want to know the living breathing person that tunes my car so when it blows up if it does I have someone to ask what the hell did you do? why did it blow up? in the living breathing person is going to know this therefore they are going to be more careful and give you a more reliable better team unless you specifically tell them to juice it and try and blow it up.

with OTS tunes thats not an option at all because you're not gonna know who the hell made the map -

bud with all due respect, if you ask a DME, HCP, BPM or whoever out there to tune your car and you run it for 3 months, 6 months and your engine goes boom, they are not going to replace your engine either way, or give you money back heck there is no guarantee they will even know if it was or wasnt their tune that caused it. I understand your point on ots maps but werent these written by respectful tuners in the M space world?
