Would anyone here buy a car that was taken back under lemon law?

Not something major like engine work which obviously we all wouldn't touch but maybe an air bag issue or something similar? At least that is the excuse given about an M from a BMW dealer that I'm considering.

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't chance it myself, not unless it was a seriously insane deal..

Hmmm, airbag sounds like it would be a fix and be done with it type scenario. I assume they wouldn't (legally) be able to sell a former lemon-law vehicle that is unable to meet certain standards. Especially, when it comes to something as vital as air bags.

I'd suggest gathering/requesting as much documentation on the vehicle as possible. Worst case is that the dealership is not disclosing ALL information on why it was a lemon.

One of the reasons some cars get lemoned is an unavailability of parts within 30 days. I considered buying an RS5 a few years ago because the AC compressor went out and they didn't get a new one in for 2 months, during which time the owner got his money back. It was a great opportunity if one didn't care about the ding on it's title.

Like I mentioned. They are saying it was an issue with the backseat airbag? Very low miles but not sure the cost is low enough.

So the overall consensus is just avoid it regardless of what they're saying.

No. That is precisely a category of car I would avoid.

Thanks, there is plenty of deals out there. I wouldn't call this a deal anyway since the price is competitive with other "non lemon" cars! No good.

If it was half price w/CPO and if your ok with the time that will be wasted with lots of trips to service.

I would avoid it - mitigate the risk of owing a car with potential issues and the headache of trying to sell a lemon designated car down the road.

Besides, there are too many good deals out there that are non-lemon.

I had a BMW 5er that was nothing but issues that BMW NA fortunately bought back from me that was a lemon. I couldn't imagine ever wanting to proactively own a lemon...

Agreed. The designation alone will kill re-selling this down the road.

Many cars under the lemon law are kept in house. It never hits the carfax.

It's the latest generation of M5. I wouldn't risk it and cheap out.
