Question would you lend your M5 to family/friends?

hi m lovers

a lot of my friends and family members are asking if i can let them take the M5 for a drive. at the moment i am telling them that the car is not yet run in. (to make an excuse). to be honest i am shit scared to let anyone drive my car. how do you say NO without offense.

Why should you have to make an excuse - its a $100k car. As far as Im concerned the only people that make payments on it should drive it.

Even at 100k it's just a car. I've let people drive mine and offer to let them drive it. Most are very respectful and are more gentle with the car than I am!

Don't be selfish everyone should get to experience the pleasure.

I don't mind people driving my car as long as they know what they are doing. For those I want to keep away, I simply tell them due to insurance policy, I am the only allowed vehicle operator.

I agree its your decision - but OP doesnt sound like he wants to let them, so he shouldn't. God forbid something happens while they are driving it - for me thats just one more thing I dont need to deal with. Unless they are driving a car with similar capabilities, you never know how they will (can) handle 560 hp.

Yes in SA I feel that if someone is driving a 2 or even a 3 liter car and then jumps into a 4.4 can be trouble I once gave my hayabusa to my brother in law. He was riding a 600 he went for a 20km ride with no problems but when he returned and saw all of us he just twisted the throttle too much and next thing you know he was sliding and I had over 10k damage some people either like to show off too much or can't handle the power

Not a chance would I let someone borrow my car. Now if they wanted to go for a short ride I would take them.

I ask them if they know how to drive a double clutch. Since they've never heard of it they always say no. Works every time.

Generally people don't ask me. I did once ask my Dad to drive the car, and he was both very cautious and impressed.

Guess I'm the odd man out...

I actually enjoy seeing the paranoid look on my family, friends, and even a couple of co-workers when they sit behind the wheel. The truly priceless face is when they are white knuckling the steering wheel and just barely tapping the throttle and all the torque kicks in. "Holy s#+\" is usually the response (yes even from my Mom who used to race down at the drag strip added a few choice words). Then after a block I let them know its a six figure car so try not to total it. Priceless!

You want an excuse? Try this, No!!!! This is not a toy, you just spent over 100k on the M5 and believe me no matter how close you are to them, they are going to see what the car can do. They will not treat this M5 like it belonged to them. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the way I feel about it, I enjoy letting my friends and family experience the car. And they do drive much more gently than I do. My brother had my m5 most of last week and the average mpg went up significantly lol.

You can't hurt the car. It's an m so it's meant to be driven. Unless they are stupid and drive it up a curb.

I assume by "lend" you mean give them the keys and let them go on their own. Haven't yet. But if you mean let others drive it (with you) then absolutely. Why not?

I would consider a mutual trade... for an afternoon. Like my buddies Panamera Turbo for the M5. Or my other friends CLS 63 trade home from the golf club etc... They are just cars after all.

The one thing I worry about is M Dynamic Mode. It is quite easy to spin the car in this mode and I don't think most people would expect that. A lot of people aren't used to being intelligent about throttle control.

Is there a mode where you cannot do this - like full traction control? Then u could just stipulate not to turn it off
