To answer the OP's question, I'd say the GT3 is quicker if it uses launch control (which it does in every instrumented test), but the turbocharged M5 with much better low-end torque will be quicker off the line than the naturally aspirated high-revving Porsche if both are forced to start without the electronic nannies.

Under acceleration, it will be very, very close. The GT3 is more than 1,000 pounds (half-a-ton!) lighter, which more than compensates for its lower horsepower and torque, and it screams to 9,000 rpm between shifts.

My suggestion is to get a jump on the GT3... and you've got him.

- Mike
Somewhat agree. Having owned the F10 M5 and currently own the GT3 and M6, if the nannies are turned off in the M car it has a very tough time putting down the torque. Always been my biggest complaint with the latest iterations. And with nannies on...forget it. GT3 will smoke it from a stop.

Definitely 991 GT3 is faster. Heck my 997 GT3 with tune, hi flow cats, exhaust kills my M6 GranCoupe off the line.

Vic lets setup a Mexico run 997 GT3 vs 991 GT3 .

I also have a carbon fiber roof, CF wing and only weight 3060lbs with half tank gas so it should be a good run.

Love the 991 GT3, but just not enough to sell my 997.

Agree fully this is a no win race. Turn off all the nannies, and the GT3 will still win traction pure physics the engine is in the ass of the car. Not a really fair comparison I would say GT3 is 1000 lbs less, but it does make for fun chatter. The winner is on the left in white!

Yeah I owned the M5 and the M6 as you very well know ... the electronic diff is not obtrusive enough and allows for too much wheelspin especially mdm mode. This goes for the DCT which I had on both the F10 and F13. I was ripping my GT3 yesterday on open road and its shocking how little wheelspin I was getting from non LC romps. I was just launching with left foot braking and release!!

No APPEAR just AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I more thrilled with this car overall then I am with the 458... the keyword is overall. The 458 is the best in a few segments for me.

Oh with the SW bypass backed up orderwise, I grabbed this exhaust with different pipes.... stupid great and Ive always had great results with CG items (997.2 Turbo, 991 Turbo S)

Good to hear all around, it's very hard not to drive it when you have other options. I can't believe how good the balance, and the handling in this car very predictable with a good feel. Toss it into a slide, and correct it with no issues recovering. Be safe and have fun. Exhaust sounds good. Looks like the boys at SW are pretty busy these days.

Pretty darn exciting huh? I say the exact same thing in regards to the GT3 vs. the MAC. I almost shutter hearing the words come out of my mouth but overall I choose the GT3. As with your 458, in some segments the MAC is better (like stomping on it at 80 mph and seeing EVERYTHING else disappear into tiny rear view dots-lol).

btw...Notice how Henry put a custom tag on his GT3? That must really mean something since earlier this year he was telling me how "cheesy" those were-haha!

Yep it's BADNEWS every time I get in this thing I want to do something crazy as this car is too much fun. I let my 19 year drive today before he went back to SoCal he had white nuckles. Good story for his buddies.

That's awesome! Gavin is too young to drive but it is fun to see him light up when I take him to or pick him up from school in one of my cars.

The sound!!!!! The chassis!!!!! The steering!!!!! So the performance numbers are there at a rather impressive clip but so is the driving experience. This combo is rarely found in a car at all levels: straights, launches, curves, steering, brakes, chassis, handling, rear wheel steering, tq vectoring, etc.... and the "driving experience".

@PhilT3

... there might not be any more allocations but there a few cars on the ground and moreso on the East Coast then West I think. I would do a cars.com search or autotrader to check (if not done so). As for the GTS- thats an incredible performer in its own right. I loved my C4S which had less power but it had the PSE and the 991 chassis. I have no seat time in the Z06 but the numbers show you its amazing too. I think the visuals are little aggressive but that fits my character.
VIC. You are truly loving your GT3. There's no doubt! Is it soooo much more of a car than the 991 tts? I'm loving my 991 tts so much, I can't imagine a more stable, fast, capable car than this... I'm intrigued to say the least how much better your GT3 could be?!

I am very happy with the car.... and yes I like it better than my Turbo S but Ill be clear that these are my thoughts and while I have owned and do own a lot of higher performance cars, other minds may differ. My reasoning is thru ownership and Ill always stand by that. I have not just driven the cars and test driven them; I have owned or own them.

The GT3 handles better, turns better, and truly allows more driver input with the rwd chassis. It is not faster to 60, although its the fastest rwd unit Ive had in this measurement. It is not faster to 150, although getting there is a more rewarding experience. The GT3 has its performance wins and losses against its more pricey brother and it lacks in certain luxury creature comforts as well. But there is something to be said not only about a car's performance objective numbers but it's subjective driver's experience.

Rarely have I found a car that matches up equally and this car is the one. An extreme example of performance vs lack of experience was my GTR. I was an early adopter (Jan 2009) and modded it by March- it was pulling 0-60 in the mid 2's and trapping over 130 miles per hour in the quarter, handling like no other, yet I just didnt have the best experience in the car. The performance vs my other cars was a 10 but the experience was around 7.5. Conversely the 458 Italian is an amazing performer, faster than the GT3, and it invovles me in all moments. Same goes for the GT3 but the GT3 is cheaper and more daily usable. Its the best daily expereince I've had and I use my perspectives, as mentioned, thru owning them. I dont know if the GT3 is for everyone as it lacks rear seats and a fantastic sound system (exhaust covers that LOL). But based on my needs and wants its the car that works best as a true raw driver with civility when needed to go to the mall, grocery store, cleaners, etc.

Im surprised there are no roll run videos yet. Im here in Houston if any GT3s want to film.
All in fun. If you win its cool, If I win its cool. Those that know me know I don't care who wins. Someone WILL always be faster.

I would think the F10 M5 should be faster in the 70-14X roll run.

Ditto for me in SoCal because I'm really curious. 60-130mph seems to be the anecdotal sweet-spot for the F1x, which renders it venerable against almost any reasonably modded car on the road (sans hyper-exotics).

I'm going to speculate that this matchup will result a tie, or a close victory for either machine... I just have a feeling that the PDK-S tranny and feathery weight will render the GT3 a formidable adversary, even at higher roll speeds.
