Update: .. Car is still at BMW. Friday makes 2 weeks

They still have no idea what the issue is. The injectors in the misfiring cylinders have been changed, the DME's have been swapped thinking that was the issue, but it wasn't. Still the same cylinder misfiring after all these things have been done.

I have already 3100+ miles on the odometer having driven the major portion during ED. I have not driven much here in the Northeast due to the snowy weather and having summer tires. I have only driven it on weekends when there is no snow. Hopefully with Spring coming, I get to drive it more.
You wouldn't have happened to be on the Bruckner expressway heading westbound on Saturday afternoon 3/9/2013 would you? I was in my Alpine White E60M5 and saw a MCB F10 when I was exiting at White Plains road.

You've got it good. My dealers previous owner had a fleet of 4 Cylinder Camry's as loaners. This was because they owned a Toyota Dealership as well as BMW, MB, and Volvo. Cheaper to put everyone in 17K Camry's with crank up and down windows than to supply 128's. I would drive a 128 for the rest of my life if I never have to drive a 4 Cylinder Camry ever again.

That is why I only do business with Century West. I ordered my M5 and we are doing ED on May 10th, but I took my 335 diesel to Century West and got a 2012 535i.

No that wasn't me. These past few weeks I have only been driving to Quogue in the Hamptons. Only time I've been to White Plains via the Bruckner expressway was sometime during the Christmas season. Guy driving the MCB M5 was probably another M5 fan. Thanks for asking.

Dealers make less money on warranty work than walk in customers. So... If you buy a car from dealer X and ask Y to service it and you owned the business what would you do? Give the better loaner/demo (limited supply) to your own customer or the guy who bought elsewhere?
A friend who owned a dealership once told me, " Your buying the relationship he car is free."
Most car dealers make more money on service and warranty work than on sales.

I think the position of this dealership is really stupid. These powertrain warranty jobs could be several thousand dollars of work. Would they want to lose that because they are being stingy with the loaner car?

I think this is right. If your car qualifies, initiate the process.

Sorry to hear that OP. I hope you get this sorted out properly one way or the other.

I would also freak out if my newly purchased $100k+ breaks down so soon and the dealer tries to fit me in a $40k car while still making the same payment. Something needs to be done to make it fair.

Lemon law process should be started just as a backup. Lemonade tastes better when you order it and not when it is forced on you.

I have had the drivetrain malfunction three times.
1. Dealer found no actual issue, said coolant might have been low, added coolant
2. Dealer found no Issue found, code reset
3. Was driving hard when the warning came on, stopped, checked for anything obvious, let things cool down a little, then continued to punch hard. The warning went away on its on, has not happened since.
Conclusion: No idea

Update: M5 is still at the dealer, no progress has been made in resolving the issue. Friday made three weeks since I dropped it off for the third time to resolve this issue.

BMW FTW .......

Hope they make things right soon enough. I almost forget how my M5 looked. Anyone want to lend me theirs for a day .. or at least 3 miles haha just poking a little fun at nugent (but i feel for him, I wouldn't tolerate that either)

I will be going in tomorrow to get some information on what is going on being this last week I was away. I will definitely keep you guys posted. Upsetting that I have had the car since beginning of December and only put 1600 miles on her :/.

everyone who is getting this multifunction drivetrain warning need to make sure your solenoids are changed!

i was getting this warning more and more often without bringing my car to service, until it really started to piss me off

once solenoids have been changed, 3K miles, no problems! touch wood

I had intermittent problem when sometimes at full throttle the car would choke, then I would get a blinking Drivetrain malfunction light and engine check light, and car felt like it was running on 4 cylinders aftwerwards. After turning the car off and back on, the care drove normal again.

I took it to the dealer, it shows that there was misfire on cylinder 5. They thought between hot temps and possible bad gas, it could be a problem. I use 95 octane so I know it wasn't the gas.
They replaced the coil because they really had no idea.

I just got the car back today, so Ill let you know what happens.

It appears from forums, other people with this problem had fuel rail replaced because fuel rails when machined could have metal shavings residing on the inside that would clog the injector. People had injectors replaced still had problems because metal floating around could reclog and cause it to be intermittent. The dealer got the info from BMW in Germany who reviewed the problem after the dealer couldn't figure out, and they had more in depth insight on a common problem. Perhaps this is the common error your dealer is missing?

Again I have received the dreaded Drivetrain Malfunction. This time it's cylinder misfire Cylinder 7. They are replacing coil for cylinder 7.

Wonder why the coils are going bad?

They were out of BMW loaners, so they sent me to Hertz on site. Hertz was out of cars, so I had to sit and wait and they gave me a Kia Forte with a popping CV joint and badly stained back seat.

I think it depends on where you live..

I guess I should consider myself lucky I got a 6 series as a loaner.
