My F10 M5's engine seized w / 70k miles

I understand your point and only use BMW Own Oil but your document is 7 years old

I am going to go with the recommendation of the guy that has open , seen and inspected many failed engines ... I have been using bmw's oil recommendation since I bought my M5 and look at the result ... failed engine 6 month out of warranty... and look at how many engines are failing now ... Troy Jeup gets calls on a weekly bases on f10 m5's with seized engines like mine

I meant from now on that I've spoken to Troy Jeup and when I get my car back from Michigan I will start using his recommendation...

Obviously Dealer oil changes (0w40 ) didn't work

Seized as in spun bearings most likely. A problem that apparently does not occur.

As you will be starting your r/bearings soon can you give me some more insight into if there is something else to replace apart from the shells.I mean..are there roller bearings there that need doing too.I can't see any in the pics I've seen just shells that's all.

All parts have now arrived, I'll be starting a thread once the job is underway. Will be on the next service in approx 800 miles. Just shells, bolts gaskets and seals really. Everything you saw in the other post on that estimate.

If you are not the original owner you have no idea how your engine was treated before you got it. There could be other reasons that had nothing to due with oil weight.

The list is long ... I am not an expert so I am afraid I can't help with that description...

He offered 2 options

1) 700hp/700lbs-tq

2 850hp/875lbs-tq

I took number 1 , I just want reliability

By the way my M5 just made it there ...

Awesome. I have seen on his Instagram of quite a few people waiting on him to finish their project while he completes others - do you know if he has some type of order of operations when it comes to client builds?

I'd be very interested to know the spec of your engine build - is he going to sleeve it? What company pistons and rods is he going to use? Do you know what kind of bearings valves etc., he will be running? How about fuel pump modifications?

Another OP (from Egypt) on here tried 10W-60 and that engine failed (catastrophically) within 500-1000 miles after rebuild.

I don't think 10W-60 is the best for break-in oil in this car. BMW used 0W-30 in my replacement.

Don't think Troy would like me to post his pricing all over the internet so feel free to call him with any questions regarding build options specs ,pistons , valves , crankshaft, as I said I am not an expert nor have the time ... only thing I know is that my car is in good hands ...

Mine was certified pre owned with 20k miles when I bought it ... I guess it doesn't mean anything at this point

Sorry, to hear about your car.

I've owned 5 M5's (E39,E60, F10(2) and currently own 19' F90 M5 Competition) and have never had any seized / blown motors.

All of them were purchased new and I think that plays an important factor as you never really know what you're getting even if it's Certified Pre-Owned. I've been in the M world long enough to know what people do to these cars that may not rear it's ugly head until years down the road, especially regarding engine internals that may have been stressed for an extended period of time.

As with any car, the possibility of failure increases in direct correlation to mileage, more so on a car that may have been modded at some point in time. You can expect to see more failures as more cars get up in mileage.

I think it's prudent to never own one of these cars w/o warranty (factory or aftermarket) and clearly understand what's covered.

Regarding the F90 M5, some initial recalls like any first year car but nothing catastrophic regarding blown engines. There was an early issue where cars were shutting down but that was corrected early in the production cycle.

I know of one, possibly two F90's that fried but that was tune-related.

So building the motor is a big deal but so is who tubes it you can have the best build and have the program ruin the car who will tune troys build

That’s a lot of thermal efficiency delta to pick up to make 100-200hp over stock without increasing boost timing and fuel imho

I haven’t made a chance to call him up but would like to talk to him about his program — the problem with that is a salesman will always say what hey need to in order to close the sale.

Someone local to me has dealt with him and I want to try to check their m5 out. It’s one of his v10 builds though

I find it very interesting in the captured promotional/selling image that it’s all about S85 V10 rebuilds ; and they are a very different beast .

N/a versus Turbo Charged

High Reving versus Lower Reving ( Max torque in the S63tu is from about 1850 rpm)

Different Tolerances internally for both engines (internal oil channels designed to much finer/smaller tolerances in the S63tu).

Different oil specs re s85 V10 versus S63tu

What’s with improved thermal efficiency gains ?

This is only available by a larger more efficient intercooler and/or bigger better turbocharger’s and/or a bigger/better cooling system as well as Thermal Coated downpipes.

So I’d love to see exactly what this rebuilder actually does with the S63tu engine !
