Non car people

You can read some people a mile off when they ask what car you drive and when you tell them they ask is it petrol or diesel

Why would you want such a high powered fuel drinking thing like that?

Defining an M5, can be fun though.

"its a legendary line of super sedans, built by BMW", is my most commonly used.

I normally quote that idiot Clarkson: "fast cars make you smarter".

I always enjoy explaining to a youngster the full specs of an M5 when they ask how fast it is than someone who is set in their ways driving a cheap to run box which would go in one ear then out the other.
When some others ask what it costs to run an M5 I don't think it's inappropriate to answer if you need to ask then you can't afford it but I'd never say it to my best liked friends.
In fact one has bought an F80 M3 so I half convinced him!

When someone asks me what I drive my response is always to ask them first whether they are interested in cars.

If they say yes, I tell them and they pretty much always respond the same (Wow! Fast car or something along those lines). If they say no, I say it's an M5 which is a very fast BMW.

My wife is not interested in cars and I haven't driven it quickly with her in it. She just thinks it's a blue car - she has no idea. My daughter loves cars and she knows exactly what it is.

My 5yr old has started asking me every time he sees a BMW, "Dad is that an M5?" or " Dad is that quicker than your car?". Love it!

When at the lights with something that looks quick my 12 year old member of family has said ''I know you'll bury them dad but make them think they've won sometimes''.

Had an older relative visit us,haven't seen him for a while and saw him looking at the car for about a minute before he came in.After tea he mentioned why I was spending money on exhausts with multiple pipes and bigger brakes as it obviously wasn't standard together with the huge wheels but naturally I played him along.
I gave him a lift back home which is about 15 miles away and when warmed up I gave it a bootful from the lights and he didn't say a word. When we arrived and as he got out he winked and said it's not a fake after all with a wry smile.

Was watching sky news now and there was a discussion about scrapping all cars.As you can imagine nerdy types were discussing the ins and outs of this and one of the chappies was asked if he runs a car.He replied that he passed his test not long ago and then shifted about when asked what he drives saying he hires cars and uses one from a 'friend'.
I would find it interesting if one of us was on that panel and on saying truthfully what we drive if the panel would pass out and a supply of smelling salts would be called for.

The problem nowadays is that the car is too affordable for all, the nutcases and day to day idiots are able to purchase cars nowadays where as before they would have got the bus, problem is that they have never moved on since they passed there test and simply cannot drive, generally your Kia jeep or Dacia brigade totally clueless as to what going around them, they would know a decent car if it hit them across the chin.

Kia's are a problem for me too, cheap and easy to buy for inexperienced drivers to hold you up and pull out on you together with their annoying tv ads plaguing tv screens every five minutes.

Another problem I think is that lot of people buying performance cars. Back in the day drivers used to progress to a powerful car because they were not that easy to drive whereas now you have 19 year olds driving M3s and AMGs. Not generalising but some of them don't respect the power and how quickly things go wrong in these cars.

With nanny systems these cars are fairly easy to start with which gives a false sense of confidence to inexperienced drivers until they lose control and don't have clue what to do.

I don't have the details but couple of weeks ago there was an accident near Hammersmith flyover in London where a Porsche and an F90 M5 were racing. One of them lost control and a guy who had nothing to do with their street racing lost his life. From what I read in a WhatsApp group that M5 was driven by a 20 year old and was tuned. 600bhp not enough when it could be your first or second car. Phew. Either he must have mad skills or this is just insane.

I'll say this that thank goodness none of us were on that bridge at that time and in some cases these youngsters are not actually insured when they are 'borrowing' daddy's car.
