That post is just on the cusp of the size limit, a couple pixels on one side or another of the limit. Probably a miscalculation by the app

Thank you for taking the time to explain. I got to thinkin’ (which is always a little dangerous at my age), in the “old” App when replying to a post a box poped up without a formatting header taking up real estate. When posting using a browser only using “advanced mode” do text formatting options appear. I agree it’s an improvement and enhancement but perhaps improvement is subjective in the case of a phone app. By this I mean simplicity and elegance are also improvements. Just something to think 💭 about. Perhaps posting with the app could emulate the browser experience with a default simple plain text mode and also offer a “use advanced mode” button if users want to use the comprehensive text formatting header options? This would save space on smaller phone screens and perhaps simplify the default “post a reply” look 👀 and feel. Just my two cents..

Absolutely a good idea. the main issue here is a actually balance between two concepts of usability: one is “more real estate” the other is “less clicks to get what I want”. As such, there’s no right answer in this case.

It wouldn’t be hard to hide the bar and make it appear with a button or advanced mode kind of style.

For now, the iPhone 8 has become an edge case, the vast majority of people on the app are using iPhone 14 and 13 which seems to give enough real estate to leave the top items always visible.

We did a bunch of testing with different bar sizes in the past and when it was any smaller people complained a lot about “where’s the xxx button”, so it seems we have the right balance of size right now.

One idea is that I could add. Button to open or close the top toolbar and if the user decides to close it, then your choice would be remebered. I’ll look into seeing if that can be fit in that crowded bar somehow 😀

apptest Excellent and thank you once again. I like the “hide the ribbon” button idea compromise for smaller phones and think it’s a best practice IMO. Well done 👍🏻.

Has anyone reported the issue with voting in a poll on iOS devices? Regardless of the selection it just adds a tally to the first option in the poll.

I wasn’t sure if that’s what I was seeing, but I was careful to try and notice that on the latest poll I voted in, and can confirm that’s what it looks like.

I just logged into the desktop and it does choose the first option despite trying to choose a different one.

Strange, especially given that polls do have other options that got voted for.

Thanks! was 100% a bug but an easy fix, so I published an update to the App Store. Hopefully will be out soon…

I was just looking back at your screen shot and noticed the “notifications” tab font is massive and overflows the area a bit. I don’t see anything like that on my iPhone 8 emulator. Was that screenshot taken on the iPhone 8 or something else?

It was taken by my iPhone 8. And yes the “notifications” font overlaps the megaphone icon.

I am using version 5.5.6 on iOS and the forums list is out of order for me for some reason. No impact on usability of course, but strange to me nonetheless. Instead of the expected 1, 2, M2, 3/4, M3/M4, 5, M5, and so on, the forums are ordered 2, M2, 3/4, 1, M3/M4, M6/6, 7, X1/X2, X7/XM, i3-i8, 5, M5, M8/8, Z4, X3/X4, X5/X6 for me. This has persisted through the last few app updates, though I can’t recall when I first noticed it unfortunately.

It’s always been like that. It will reorder the list based on the site you visit most often. So that your favorites bubble to the top of the list

Oh ok I see, that does make sense then, thank you. I feel a little foolish for not working that out. 😅

I wonder then if it would be possible in the future to add a toggle for sorting by numerically ordered as opposed to by usage.

I can try to add that into the next release which should come in a few days
