Gearshift Rod 2-R: Gear Fault Code

Getting a Gearshift Rod 2-R: Gear Fault Code and losing 2nd gear. Car will only shift out of 1st at about 4000 rpms and into 3rd. Car can not be shifted manually with the paddles. Car goes into drivetrain malfunction when this happens.
Also getting code speed sensor tg2: value not plausible

Any one have this issue, and if so what’s the outcome

How many miles on the car and do you have any mods ?
Is the DCT stock or do you have upgraded clutches ?
I am working on trying to correct gear rod codes myself.
Removed valve body and opened to clean.
Got 3 codes down to 1 code.
Previously trans would go into limp mode and would be fine after ignition cycle then went straight to only N is available.
No gear selection possible.
Now after removal, cleaning and re-install drive works but no reverse.

I would first recommend updating your transmissions firmware to the Sept.2016 version, which is the lastest update. This almost always fixes rod code issues. The firmware update allows for a lower clutch stack height to be accepted. The 2008-2016 (mid) models use a taller stack height (same clutch).

If the firmware update doesn't work, then the VB will need to be inspected for clutch and metallic debris.

On hard driving do you experience a lot of wheel slip ?
On the 3rd disassembly on my current gear-rod shift diagnostic we took another look at the wear and measurement of the clutch discs and found the small discs being warped.
It is hard to notice with just visual but by applying pressure to the stacked discs being removed we found that they were infact warped.
This M6 is making more torque then HP which creates excessive wheel slip which can overheat the clutches and create this.
We will be installing a fresh set of SSP clutches to see the result.

Bring your car to the dealership and tell them you want them to update the firmware on your transmission to the latest version. As of a month and a half, my gear rod 5-7 issue went away. *knocks on wood*

This is per recommendation of SSP Kris, he knows these transmissions better than BMW does 😂

After the update do you have to retune the dme's?

Sometimes yes because the dealer does a complete system update instead of just the DCT.

Take to dealer and get a DCT update of firmware as suggested in #8.
