This is way above my head when a fault code can lead to catastrophe like some of the ones stated here.Someone even suggested having a spare DCT! if you mod your motor as the upgrade adaptation can eventually lead to a lunched motor.A BMW tech I know has advised me not to use launch as the carbon clutches will burn out.

2016 DCT software and not current software level thru ISTA ?
Do you have a software version level that can be researched ?

Currently have - Gearshift rod 2-R / Gearshift rod 6-4 / Clutch temperature phase red & black codes

SSP spec R clutches including baskets and cooling system package installed.

Everything was solid for about 3,000 miles.
Then at random driving times the transmission would go into limp mode. Cycle the ignition switch and would be fine.
Now no gears at all. Transmission shifts itself into neutral.
No gear engagement at all.

in my case I was able to work around it by switching from DCT setting 2 to 1....so for normal cruising I drive in DCT 2 .......once car is warmed up DCT 2 doesnt show any rod codes...only on cold......then when racing I switch to DCT 1 and rod shift never happens.....so I'm ok for now

If I didnt have this workaround I would try the above cleaning and firmware updates

By saying you don't have codes in DCT 1 what are you referring to ?
Do you scan your ECU for codes or meaning you don't get "limp mode" ?
What if you drive aggressive in setting 1 ?

there are 2 Msport buttons on steering to control what settings you prefer....like comfort or sport suspension...there is also a DCT setting 1-3.....

Yes ISTA scanning at my mechanic....but its a transmission fault and power cuts off

DCT1 I race full blown with meth and 7k rpm shifting no issues

***I think each car will have errors at different settings depending on how dirty the Trans sensors are

Yes I understand the settings
I should of been more detailed in my reply to what settings are you at.
MDM, full traction off, etc..

I would be curious to see some further data like transmission oil temperature, temperature of TCU, target current PV3, PV4 etc.. there is extended data with each code.
The ISTA diagnostic is very detailed in faults being set.
What codes are you getting when it occurs ?

all settings are max sport, traction always on, dct2....sometimes change to dct1 and mdm for racing only.....or the first 5mins on a cold engine switch to dct1 to prevent rodshift...then go back to dct2

dont recall code details except it was rod shift related

Hopefully you get it resolved before you get left stranded.
This M6 did not get rod codes initially, only temp codes at very random times and then all sudden the transmission has no gear engagement. Only neutral

Does anyone have more detailed information on the "2016 software" that SSP Kris posted the other day ?

Only the factory scan tool from the dealer will have the latest firmware for your vehicle.

Are you getting any transmission codes? These symptoms are normally caused by a failing megatronic unit...

Would today's current software version be ok to use or are you stating that we need to re-load an older version software September 2016 ?
Thanks for the reply

If you have a 2017 machine or newer, I believe that the new software will be on it. I am double checking with our tech department.

I agree that this is more then likely influenced by the mechatronics.
Currently I have collected the trans fluid to inspect, dropped the lower pan and today removing the valve body for inspection.

Codes :

40DE01 Clutch Temperature Phase Red
40DF01 Clutch Temperature Phase Black
40FD01 Gearshift Rod 6-4 Gear Fault
40FB01 Gearshift Rod 2-R Gear Fault

When attempting to clear codes, the transmission will not engage any gear other then Neutral
Fault codes fro Gearshift Rod set immediately
