Just did this on my 2013 M5 last night, replacing the stock grilles with LCI gloss black versions. I was able to pull them out just as described, although the driver side was a bit more of a pain in the ass -- it still popped out.

Simple mod.

I'm guessing we are talking about a short sharp "rip' em" out rather than a progressive pull?

I've ordered these and pick up tomorrow, based upon this thread I'm going to give it a go, although knowing my luck it will go horribly wrong!

I have 2014 LCI

I installed them today, I did a hybrid of the IND pull them out and the loosening the front bumper.

It was quite easy but not that easy, the tabs are quite brittle/hard and require some pressure to release them, the hardest to get at are the side tabs.

Once I had the all the top and one side tab loose I pushed with one arm against the bumper and pulled with the other and they ripped out (made quite a noise)

The only issue when fixing the top of the bumper back on is to make sure you align it to the bonnet.

Works only with pulling.
You have to start on one corner/clip and go on clip to clip

Any further instruction on the NV ones?

Hi guys

Getting a pre facelift M5 soon and wanted to change the grills, sorry but don't really feel comfortable pulling out the grills like this! Is there no other way of installing these grills? (like removing any screws etc)

The other way is to pop the grill out from behind. Once the hood is open there is a strip of rubber weatherstripping closest to the front of the car - a few feet long. Remove this to reveal 6 screws and 4 plastic push-type fasteners. Remove those then you should be able to pull the bumper out a bit and get your hand behind the grills. Work each clip and you're done. I did my 2013 like this and it was about a 30 minute job, but when attempting this on my 2015 I there was something preventing me from getting my hands behind the grills and I ended up doing the pull method.

On my 2015 with night vision, I was unable to do a complete grill swap and ended up keeping the inside parts of the 2015 grill intact and just swapped the surround bezels with my other set.

Hope this helps.

For those asking about grill swaps and night vision, there is a screw that has to be removed in order to pop the grills out - its part of how the NV bracket mounts to the car itself. Its located above the right side of the drivers side grill, just underneath the area where you remove the 6 screws. Next to the screws just referenced there is a hole that I was able to fit a long socket into and remove the NV mount screw (cannot see the screw unless you peek into the hole, where a hex-top screw sits about 2 inches lower than the 6 screws removed in the prior step). Once I removed that I was able to use the pull method to loosen the grill, but found that the night vision unit is attached to the grill with another 4 screws, as well as a few tabs similar to what the grills themselves use. So 5 screws mounting the NV unit - 1 attaching it to the car itself and 4 attaching it to the grill - and tabs. I removed 2 of the screws but the other 2 I was unable to remove as the cabling going to the unit itself did not have enough slack so I only swapped the surround bezels - chrome for black.

NV setups have a different grill to accommodate the mounting requirements, thus an NV setup cannot use a non-NV grill unless you only swap just the surround bezel and keep the slatted center part in place. If you want to do a whole grill swap you would need to pick up an NV-specific grill from BMW or IND.
