M2 vs. TT RS vs. 718 Cayman S
Apparently this is video number one (Dyno/Weight testing) in a series of four. Pretty interesting and informative. Short and to the point.
Enjoy! |

I think I'm confused. They show the cars on a wheel dyno, not an engine dyno, but then cite brake horsepower, not wheel horsepower, as a result of the tests? BHP measures hp at the flywheel, not at the wheels.
Given typical drivetrain loss, seems to me that all three of these cars are actually significantly in excess of their rated BHP. |

Just from descriptions on videos like these, though, if you are talking about driving on a track, it seems the M2 would win the "fun to drive" contest pretty easily-- a simple RWD set-up with great balance is going to let you do more than an Audi AWD system. But for just driving around town? Personal taste, I'd say. If you want an MT, there is literally no contest. But otherwise, especially if straight-line speed is important to you, the Audi could easily be your car. |

I feel like the TT is always in some kind of no-man's land. It's not quite as practical as a BMW or traditional sedan, but it isn't a purist sports car due to its chassis, driving position, and dimensions. Personally, I would always choose the Cayman or a C7 for fun and the M2 (or M3/M4) for practicality.

I find painfully disrupting to watch how the TT-RS struggles with understeer. It's 400bhp understeer factory that's it.
I really don't get people chasing numbers. Unless you compete in some sort of track competition or even at the drag strip you should be out of your mind to get the TT-RS. The Cayman is better as a sports car but specing one as you like will take you way over the M2's price for a decent configuration. You also lose 2 rear seats, and a bit of luggage space. For me the M2 is really a no brainer... PS: for the brakes just add Pagid R29 in all four corners for few hundreds bucks and you should good for any track... But for that understeer there is no cure |

But as a DD the TT RS is going to be a hell of a nice car. Comfortable, very nice interior, fast as hell and AWD traction. I'm sure it will be a great all weather street car.

He criticized the M2's brakes and the Cayman's engine but really shat all over the TT. Understeer sure is is a fun robbing, performance zapping characteristic.

Coming BMW 1 will be on front-driven platform with same layout as TT RS and AMG A45. This means no inline 6 Zylinder, at least 60% weight on front axle and natural understeer (if not faked/ corrected via power distributen as for example in a Ford Focus RS). Based on current information, future BMW 2 (as of late 2020) is also likely to come with front-driven platform. This would be the end of all small traditional rear-driven BMWs. I hope it will not happen.. .

Porsche winner, but I would not buy a cayman over an M2 with a 4 cylinder, soul lacking, "generator" as well phrased on this video. Better save +20k price over the M2.
This is however, tested at the track, I don't think the Porsche is better than the M2 on twisty roads or even daily driving. Just watch this video and see what their impression is of the Porsche on daily roads. |

Too bad they weren't all PDK, DCT and DSG. Seems like apples to oranges for acceleration. As much as I've always like the Cayman, I find it difficult to convince myself to spend $70-90k for a four cylinder car with similar output to a Golf R that costs half as much. I realize the Cayman S is a 2.5l with 350hp. I wish maybe they went with the 5 cylinder like Audi did since they were breaking with tradition anyway.

Cayman because of its layout won't do that at all and in the wet you're gone. Not kidding. It's sharper but when you lose it in the wet: Bye bye... M2 is just the most fun/useable any day.Rain or shine. By far. You have to ask yourself: Why did Jethro have so much fun on a wet track with the M2(almost no understeer, he stated) and the Cayman and TTRS were driven on a dry track. A tad strange huh? BMW //M cars have a balance/ layout which gives confidence also in bad weather. 24/7 fast and fun Think about it. Cheers Robin |

Exactly ! The 4F is raw, is resonating into the interior, soul lackiung and non-inspirational IMO (I`ve driven 2 718 Cayman S/non S and the Boxters.) I felt no good to me. Comming from a 981 Cayman GTS, now that was something completly different engine wise. The M2 is the bang for the buck. |
