If you know a bit about cars then don't be afraid to get one privately like I did rather than a dealer where some that are easily frightened tend to go and pay a premium. With these M5's they are reliable and servicing costs are ok for this type of car and all I've replaced in mine is the ac condenser thankfully under warranty, oil change every two years on mine through low miles and the big brake pads last long.As a daily driver its fine and in traffic its very good with the stop/start chiming in to save you petrol/gas.
Because they are very fast quite a few have been damaged but its no big deal getting one that had been bumped not too hard and repaired to Bm standard.
Good luck!

As someone who’s currently in the market, I’ve noticed private sale tends to be just as high or even higher than dealer listings. Just what I’ve seen from personal experience.

I would stick with 14+ for the LCI features. I would also invest in a warranty as well. Other than that, you'll be fine. I love mine and it has been reliable.

2013 BMW 535i [SOLD]  [10.00]
I'm also in the same boat but I would recommend getting +14 mainly because of the LCI. In other terms, its an updated interior and exterior. Even though these changes are little it does make a difference. Best of luck!

I agree with the others here, definitely spend the extra money on an LCI, the small changes make it well worth the price difference.

Hi
I have a 2016 M5 Comp Pack and it is fantastic.
It drives like a 520 when you want it to and like a rocket when you need. So easy to live with. Servicing is not very expensive - though you might want to get a warranty of sort to be safe. It's very intoxicating.
I'm selling mine actually somewhat reluctantly - no good for you as the steering wheel is on the wrong side.....
Just do it, but buy one that has been properly serviced and try to see if there are any receipts for tyres...then check the mileage and look at the tyre. It may give you an indication of how it is driven. Good luck

My 13 has 18k miles and it’s been perfect, not a glitch. Installed stage 2 Dinan as well as the rest of their catalog at 10k miles and it’s stupid fast and handles better, flatter than my Z06. Amazing cars. Don’t shy from a 13, the engine was out in the X5M/X6M in 2011 I think so it’s well tested.

What the car is advertised at and what someone will pay are two different things, you should know by looking at it if its worth the asking price. Bm dealers tend to ask quite a bit more here as any questionable parts are replaced and it completes a m-p health check, wheels are made to look like new, some tyres replaced etc and the one year Bm warranty applied so naturally the asking price would be more than a non franchised dealer or some private sellers.

I think you miss read my original comment. I agree with what you are saying. BMW dealer prices are usually “justifiably” higher for those reasons. Private sale listings see those prices and think that their cars are worth the same as dealer prices, but in actuality, they aren’t of the same caliber and likely end up needing some type of work to be done. I’ve talked to multiple individuals who have their cars listed at retail prices, but the vehicles need thousands of work with touch up paint, wheels, interiors, etc. not including any mechanical issues.

I'll go with that and as I have said if you know your cars you'll know if an M5,whoever is selling it, is worth the asking price.

Mine funnily enough has just turned 32000 miles and the DCT is sweet as a dream.Like any other semi or full auto if the gear changing should start getting strange or thumps when you select D then it's time for an ATF oil and filter change, these DCT's have two filters.

From someone who has been watching the market the last 6 months in order to find the right car for me, I can say the price is right at a "subjective" point. Being LCI and having CPO definitely add to the value. mileage versus price is pretty close to on point. Overall I'd say the price is too high but that's because I'm a manual transmission guy. I see a ton of DCT cars sell with similar spec for less money. If it was a 6MT I'd say the price is right on the money. Of course all of that gets influenced by options, exterior color and interior color. Overall condition, maintenance history, etc.

Post a separate thread with photos if you want more detailed opinions on the car.

Good luck in your search!

As others have already stated, these cars seem to be pretty reliable. Of course there will be horror stories, etc. but the general sense I get is they are not huge maintenance whores. I've test driven 2 DCT cars and can say they were nice to drive. From what I hear they are great for daily use too.

When it comes to best value, I think I differ from many here. To a certain extent, what year car you buy/look for depends on your budget AND what specs you want. Yes the 2014+ cars have better looks and a few extra features, but how important are those to you? For me, I like the facelift grilles and steering wheel. The rest I don't care enough about. It's easy to upgrade the grilles and steering wheel on a 2013. Like I said, for me the primary search items were it must be a 6MT and I wanted Monte Carlo Blue or Imperial Blue. Finding that combo was hard enough, so when I found a car that also checked even more of my "wants", but was a 2013? I didn't hesitate to buy it. Especially since the mileage wasn't high and it had maintenance history.

Good luck on your search and post here when you find a potential winner so we can help you!

I've been looking at the M5, X5M, and X6M. I prefer the M5, but I really want red interior, seems like the closest option on the M5 is orange

I stopped looking at the 2013, after the LCI, I hate the steering wheel on that model, however as listed above, the 2013 M5s are definitely in the high 30s. Glad to hear there are'nt any serious issues in this thread, but based on the mileage, you all have short commutes or use the car on the weekend!
