Ice Tank Build
After tons of logs and measuring timing vs. IAT, it turns out we are very sensitive to IAT's for reliable and repeatable power. So, I have decided to build an ice-tank.
The flow is: HE->Hot side Tank->Cold side Tank -> IC Inlet->IC Outlet->HE All three HE outlets are combined into the tank, so everything gets cooled. The tank itself is a 5G with a Rule 3700 pump inside. The two inlets to the IC are de-coupled and routed to the tank (as the hot side). This goes into the tank, gets cooled and then routed back to the IC's (as the cold side). Using 1 1/8" ID main piping that is then divided into 3/4" ID piping as it gets split to the IC's. Everything is run above the exhaust heat shielding and are hard-lined (silicon hose used only as couplers as this needs to be accessible for servicing). No holes drilled, hard lines have mounting points to the factory locations. There are mounting nuts in the trunk-bed, but these are not holes... rather like a rivet nut that the mounting bolts are screwed into. Turns out there are two holes in the trunk so we built bulkheads to mount to these (no drilling of large holes). The piping then mounts to these bulkheads. It is Al hardlines all the way to the transmission mount where they split at a Y and then head to the IC's. These hoses need to run somewhat close to the DP's, so they are heat-shielded appropriately. There is an issue in this car with the ice-tank being at a lower level than the reservoir, so a custom air-pocket has to be designed-in, so that the ice-tank doesn't continue to gravity-feed and fill itself up when the car (and IC pumps) are off. Since the car is up on a lift for a while, decided to install some Moroso line-lock solenoids as well. All custom brake hard-lines as well. Some pictures of the build... will continue to update as it should be done this week. Last edited by allmotor_2000; 12-04-2015 at 03:40 PM.. |

I appreciate the thought and effort you put into your ice tank, as well as taking the time to post a well documented pictorial! It is probably more than I will ever do to achieve cooler IATs, but to know it's doable, and how to do it is a great resource. Thanks so much.

It was the easier option than direct port water injection.... although that is the better option for cooler IAT's
Ice tank is only useful at the track and is actually a PITA to really use properly to be effective. |
