Clearly never been around a properly set up sound system. You'd see that if done right it can be an extremely great thing to have. Especially if you spend time in the car.

I really like the B&O. Takes 30 seconds to adjust the EQ settings and it's perfect. The louder it is the better is sounds. It bumps hard.. everything shakes. The rear mirror picture becomes blurry.

I would get the option. Compare it for yourself though. Your local dealer will have an M5 with it and another without. Just bring a CD with 320kbps audio files, adjust the EQ real quick (search the forums for a photo you can use to quickly adjust it), and turn it up.

Just avoid any of this after being able to tell the difference between the two systems:

Remember you will be paying almost four thousand for it.

For the duration you will have the car, it will be worth it. Better to have it then regret not having it.

But listen to both and come to your own conclusion.

I added pictures for easier reading.

Shoot, if my wife had this same affliction, I'd buy two B&O systems if needed to avoid that scenario...sheesh...

Glad you're getting it! I posted a large summary of my thoughts here:

http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthr...=782859&page=3

Puts a smile on my face every day. Just prepare for how awful any low quality recordings will be . I had to get a better source for a number of older songs.

So a buddy has the B&O system in his F10. Sure, it sounds better, but $3700 better? Both of us just listen to compressed music via our Iphones or talk radio almost 100% of the time. With that said, the B&O system would be a huge waste for me. This $3700 option, IMO, is only worth it if you indeed listening to very high quality reproductions, and you want a very cool looking system. For me, it was a huge waste, but that's why it's optional, right?

The B&O system made me switch from listening to SIRIUS 95% of the time to listening to MOG. I just hope that the Beats app which supersedes MOG in April will have an iDrive app. Right now it doesn't.. and MOG is set to basically turn off soon. That will really suck if it happens.

I guess I don't know my music that well. Is the quality of the IPhone music not as good as a cd? Reading last comment makes me think so?

Thats why its best to listen for yourself. 95% of people will try to justify their purchase so they feel better and you'll get biased opinions right off the bat.

Frankly I was just bummed because while its better I quickly realized it wasn't 3700 better. Oh well its still cool (see trying to find justification for my purchase )

No... These are compressed files meant so you can squeeze as many possible onto an iPod, iPhone, usb drive, etc. with little regard to quality over quantity.

Music took a nose dive when SACD died, but thankfully you can find uncompressed files (which will be significantly bigger), and Blu-ray has some good stuff.

Not entirely true. A 128kbit file doesn't sound as good as a CD, but at 256 or over, especially with VBR, you'd be hard pressed to tell the diff - esp in a car.

Funny...I really get it though.. I had checked the B&O box on the order, then unchecked it, then checked it again, then finally unchecked it when logic got the better of me. No doubt you get a better (and so much cooler) system... But between sirius, talk and iphones, everything I listen to essentially sounds like crap anyway. Everyone laughs at me because I still have one of those CD racks with like 1000 cds piled up from my youth. Still love grabbing a CD and dropping in the tray. I am so old.

I agree completely. If you can't discern the quality, or don't care, then no. Talk radio is certainly not worth it As for iPhone sound quality, if you're using BlueTooth it will sound like absolute garbage anyway. There just isn't the practical bandwidth to accommodate a high quality stream.

iTunes songs aren't ideal either, most of the time. They are compressed pretty tight and the quality drops as a result. I say most of the time because Apple uses the M4A container for both lossy and lossless, and you can generally tell between the two by checking file size. A 20MB 4min song is usually lossless. As for the lossy versions, is it so bad that it's really noticeable to everyone? No. But in the B&O if you have a discerning ear you can tell. Don't get me wrong, even a lossy song sounds great in the B&O, but it can be noticeable.

I don't buy my music from iTunes unless it's some hip hop, pop, or similar as it's all just bass and autotuners anyway, it's convenient, and it's usually fine. That, and I generally just want one or two songs as most popular music CD's are filler with a few good tracks. If you really want the best quality, you can buy music on CD which is the best source, rip the CD using proper software and encoding or using the Apple lossless format, and then bring it into iTunes for transfer to your iPhone. There's also plenty of other sites that sell music in lossless format.

The B&O needs to be EQ'd properly to sound optimal. Someone here posted their EQ settings in the forum and I've been using them. Sounds great. I'll see if I can find the post, or at least post mine.

If someone can deal with sat radio SQ or less to begin with, listens to a lot of talk, they probably aren't going to care $3700 between the H/K and the B&O. For me it was absolutely worth it, and I couldn't deal with the H/K for what I listen to and what I like once I heard the B&O. For me, it was the best option next to the Exec pack.

As I eluded to above, it depends on what the iPhone is playing as a source file. CD is the lossless digital source, so nothing other than lossless format will be as good. FLAC and AIFF are both considered lossless as, although they use compression, it is really more of an encoding algorithm to save space while preserving all of the source. MP3s and whatnot are lossy, but they can be encoded in such a way as to minimize loss, preserving as much of the original source as possible.

You can absolutely play music from the iPhone lossless. It all depends what you drop into iTunes.

CD, FLAC, AIFF, iTunes lossless (sometimes in store) = best
iTunes lossy (usually in store), MP3, AAC = not as good but generally fine
Bluetooth = no! Always use dock or cable.

My suggestion has always been to go try both with your own music (very important) and determine whether it's worth it. It's like auditioning speakers at a store. Keep in mind as well, it is a car which is quite hostile to sound quality. The B&O really makes the best of a bad situation.

Really sounds like I need to learn more about music files. FLAC, AIFF. I just download from iTunes.

Put a lossless music through the B&O and it's produces a beautiful sound... Is it worth 3700 on a 100k car sure... Would I buy in on. 40k car maybe not... I think it's worth it.
