Hi Folks,

Has anyone experienced a dashboard message when engine is off. This message comes on nearly every day. BMW have checked and cannot find any faults. I also changed the Battery after 5 years, but still getting pop up message.

Trickle charge it from the engine bay and it should disappear.

Do you think charging from the engine bay is better than from the boot?

DO NOT charge directly to the battery terminals in the trunk. Charging from the engine bay is the only way you want to charge.

The charge circuit under the hood limits the amps to the battery to prevent damage. Bypassing this and charging directly to the battery will make the circuit think it's weaker than it actually is and will limit the alternator's charge amperage to the battery while driving. Over time the battery will create a low full capacity memory.

You learn something everyday!

My Ctek MXS 5.0 charger is attached to a hardwired plug in the boot which is directly attached to the battery. I've never had any issues but what you say makes total sense. I'll remove it sometime and connect to the post under bonnet. Maybe I'll put the plug under the dash or into the drivers dash cubbyhole bit so I don't have to faff about under bonnet every time I want to go out.
