Ebay ISTA Laptops

I m looking to acquire a laptop to support my 2 f chassis cars. Are there other options other than the ebay laptops out on the market. I hope to do injects and transmission fluid maintenance and as far as procedures go I feel pretty informed thanks to tons of info on the forum and interwebs but the laptop and supporting software I still feel as clear as mud.

Any info or wisdom you can share would be greatly appreciated.

You can use any laptop for that depends on your budget and you can download the ISTA software.

I use surface pro 7.
Enet cable.
Apple USB Ethernet Adapter.

Or you can go with this

I'll check out the scan tool video; I do already have one made by AutoEnginuity and I have the enhanced codes but it doesn't do calibration/programming tasks . I've had a hard time sourcing the software and figured it might be easier to jut buy one from fleabay.

can't thank you enough for the info you shared about the autosvs website. I've been interested in things like ICOM, laptop based SW tools and dongles. Youtube is helpful but sometimes I'd jut like to read it.

I have had a few Ista Software packs where you get the ista on HDD's and just install into your own laptop of choice. You do not need an expensive laptop to run them so its cheaper just to get the HDD ones and buy a cheap laptop. Most of those worked ok and had ALOT more options with software but the older the software got the more issues I had with them. I currently use Bimmer Diagnostics for Ista and have had 0 issues with stability. I think they mostly just offer the Ista software but thats all I really use now a days since I have Bimmer code on my phone for coding.

Just did that recently. Got used laptop from craigslist and have a member from another forum to install everything remote. Did pay some fee but was more than happy to do so. It works great for diagnostic or coding. If you want full programing you need to buy ICOM, which is on backorder from BMW. There are some Chinese copy of it, some people claim that is as good and had no problem. I am planing to get one of those and give it a try.
