Apple CarPlay

Good day

I was hoping to add a refreshing change after 3 years of enjoying this beast. Noticed a few members here have added CarPlay, would like to know how to add it and is it working well (i.e does it cause any problems with the iDrive etc.)

Thank you.

This is on my list as well. You may already have seen this website but it has a lot of info on it. For my 2016, I can just add the module and leave the screen etc, older ones I think you need to add a different screen and newer cars you can just get the feature unlocked with coding.

That's awesome I did not know about this, reviews seem pretty good too. Thank you for the link.

I already integrated CarPlay for Apple and Android in my 2014 M5, I used Carlinkit. Bimmertech is a wellknown provider for aftermarket solutions snd highly regarded. As to the model years, there are the following differences:
Up to 09/2012: CIC
Up to G30: NBT
Newer models: NBT EVO
The CarPlay kits will work with CIC and NBT, it's a matter of selecting the correct version for the application. And NBT EVO can even provide a touch solution and full integration in the screen, fitted to the F10 dashboard. Option 1 & 2 are reasonably priced, option 3 is obviously a huge upgrade.

Here's a pic after my integration, works with the iDrive controller and original mic:

Man SCD that's a fantastic set up really liking the look of the ceramic controls. I guess I want to do that too now haha.
Regarding your CarPlay screen is it compatible with the HUD, stock cameras (rear and 360), and B&O sound system? And are you able to access the standard iDrive on our cars?

I added a unit from AliExpress that supports wireless CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto. I had it in my 535i and moved it to my new M5 on the second day I owned it. I use Wireless Android Auto and love it. I paid around $246 dollars.

All BMW functions work, surround cameras. The only thing is no support for HUD. I turned off entertainment in the HUD and never looked back. My car has H/K amp, full Bavsound speakers and coded the B&O DSP and Equalizer. Car sounds good.

Look what I found on AliExpress

My 13 m5 got full evo nbt upgrade and apple CarPlay kit. IMO it’s really worth it if you have professional install the whole kit for you

That's an amazing setup, NBT EVO is a big improvement. I just opted for the CarPlay unit and performed the installation myself, I enjoy working on my cars. There's always the thirst for the latest tech, but CarPlay is good enough for me at this point. I will always be behind the newest tech, since I normally purchase cars in the age range 3 - 5 years. Therefore I'm totally happy to have a working CarPlay solution in my 2014 M5, plus I installed the whole setup. So far, all my mods were done by me 💪

Wow, incredible pricing, mine was $399! Same here, supports all functions except HUD. Other than that, works flawlessly for me. I really enjoy the mirroring function, using my M Performance analyzer:

That's awesome thanks a lot at this point I'm guessing the upgrade is definitely worth it if there are no compromises to be made

Look up Andream MMI on aliexpress, as mentioned above. Basically the same unit as bimmer-tech at nearly half price. F30 forums has a very very extensive thread on this subject.

People say bimmer-tech gives better customer service. Yes, they are more responsive and polite but not based in the US and don't even offer a return policy. Don't expect much of a warranty or customer support, this isn't really high end quality stuff to begin with. So it's a gamble but very little money to worry about IMO.

The point is this new wireless MMI does the job. It's literally a game changer in terms of usability. You won't even use the OEM interface anymore. Installation looks daunting but very doable in a couple hours. Easy for most handy people to DIY. If you're on the fence, go for it, definitely worth every penny!

Thanks for your response; And that's my biggest fear that it isn't high quality stuff it's not the price I'm worried about as much as I am about doing some sort of damage to the car.

By performing the full NBT EVO with CarPlay upgrade, your car electronics won't be harmed, since it's an OEM system.
And the aftermarket CarPlay solutions are linked in between the original harness and the box, so I don't see a real risk of damaging any vital functions!

yeah, after reading the F30 forum I pulled the trigger on the Andream unit. Seriously, zero regrets. I wish I'd known about it a year ago. I had been using the Spotify Connected Drive app with USB to an iPhone prior to get album art. Android Auto and Carplay work great. Both get used in my car. I use Android Auto, but if the wife is with I let her DJ with her iPhone. I use Spotify,Stitcher and Tunein mostly, she uses Spotify and Overcast.

ORDER IT!!!

Sounds like a good Father's Day gift. I'll go ahead and order it so the family doesn't have to come up with other ideas. Haha

Whats the easiest Apple Carplay upgrade that you can DIY for a beginner?

I have an F10 535 and 16 F10 M5 I may be interested to upgrade.
