Tire Replacement Suggestions
I am starting my research on replacement tires for my 2014 M5. It is a 2014 with the original factory tires. It only has 9,300 miles so the tread is fine but the tires are starting to showing some drying and cracking on the edge of the tread and sidewalls. It currently has Pilot Super Sports with 295/30ZR20's on the rear and 265/35ZR20's on the front.
I am running an OpenFlash Stage One tune so traction is always a consideration. What thoughts and suggestions are out there concerning best tire considering traction and the fact that the car records very low driving miles? Thanks!

I just recently got a set of Pilot Sport 4S and they are great. I'm on stage two tune and they grip very well in the dry. They also work pretty well in the rain (living in Seattle, we got a lot of that).

I would say they are little noisier than I expected. However overall performance is 2nd to none. No complaints and no turning back to PZero's or 295's for that matter. |

A lot of us have the Pilots 4's,myself as some others have 305's on the rear and immediately you would notice more grip on take off but keep in mind with a tune you will get more skipping in 1st anyway and would want to change up sharpish and won't necessarily be quicker on take off than that a standard car. It's advisable to keep the traction on at all times with the dynamic mode clicked on sometimes and I don't really bother with the paddle shifts, the dct being so quick to react automatically.
They are more reassuring in the rain also. |

Thanks for the input and information. I can see where it would make sense to go with the wider 305's on the rear. I don't typically get in to the car from a standstill but notice that even at a rolling start in lower gears the traction control has a hard, if not impossible task, keeping up with the torque. I run it with traction control on and all M settings to Sport with the DCT control at the 3rd bar when I am driving it more aggressively. What a blast! It is stunning how much power and torque the car generates.
I have owned and driven powerful cars in the past but this is my first experience with a car that will break loose and start to fishtail at 45 mph with all nanny controls engaged! The M5 has to be one of the greatest "sleeper" cars on the road. With a family car appearance and a soul of brutal power and torque it checks all of the boxes for me.
