Ronin - Behind The Scenes Of The World's Greatest Movie Car Chase - E34 M5

I'm sure most have watched the outstanding movie Ronin which had a brilliant car chase featuring the stunning E34 M5.

Anyway, I came across an excellent video showing some behind the scenes stuff of the car chases from the movie and as described by Jean-Claude Lagniez who was the stunt coordinator of Ronin.

And here a clip from the movie with BMW vs Peugeot to see how it all looked:

I do love that movie, but it has one of the fakest burnout smoke scenes I have ever seen with my own eyes. When I think of that movie, that is the first thing my brain see's. LOL

Didn't someone remake the car chase on YouTube a few years back?

The director was a bit of a petrolhead, which is why there are so many great cars utilized in the film! Can't leave out the 90s S8 scene with the Benz 6.9 - that was also great, Ronin is easily one of my top 3 favorite films of all time!

Additional fun fact about Ronin, John Frankenheimer recorded and cut two alternative endings. Test audiences didn't like the two endings even though he did, and had to follow what the audience wanted due to the production studio's wishes. He preferred the ending where she got kidnapped though, he thought it was a better wrap for the movie.

SPOILERS BELOW - IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE DON'T READ OR WATCH(but if you haven't seen this master piece in filmmaking, do yourself a favor and go watch it ASAP!)

The ending as the movie shipped consisted of Sam and Vincent in the cafe, CIA asset comes and picks up Sam, and Vincent leaves shortly after - credits.

The two other endings had Dierdre in it. In both, she is outside the cafe in Paris. First one she leaves by going to her car, and drives off - then Sam and Vincent leave. Second one she leaves and as she is getting into the car, she gets kidnapped by IRA members in a black van. Videos I could find are as follows:

Original Ronin Ending:

Alternative Ending #1(Dierdre with IRA):

Can't find the other, but it's similar to to alternative ending on YouTube except she drives away instead of getting kidnapped by the IRA.

The one right at the begening of the car chase /ambuse scene after he blows up the car. They do a reverse to drive uturn and they add a ton of super fake CGI tire smoke. Super cheesy and unneeded.

Great flix though.

I DVR'd the shootout scene after they leave the bank and watch it all the time. When no one is home I crank it up so loud that the neighbors probably think I'm killing my family.

I love the pacing of both those movies... they are really allowed to breathe!
