Shorts Trips...

Hi All,

I know short trips are never ideal, but how 'damaging' can they be to the car?
I go the school drop offs and it's literally a 10min drive if that.
Engine temp needle is barely moved by the time I get to the school...

Is it Ok, Not great, Damaging for the car?

Thoughts & advice would be great?

It is what it is, main issue we can't push it while cold, so need to drive like a grandma on very short trips

Wouldnt say damaging unless you floor it

As long as you do some more longer trips each week and more frequent service

Best to let it warm up with no load on it a few minutes before setting off.

maybe get a job so you have to drive a lil farther and do more than be a showpiece for dropping off the rugrat.

i bet youre shooting the pool of single moms in the dropoff line like fish in a barrel

no but seriously, so why not drive around the block to get it warm and then get on it some after u drop off the kid?

Don't over think it, i doubt you're racing it down the road to school with the kids.

Let your car idle till the RPMs drop and drive. If you plan to be aggressive, let the car reach normal operating temps.

Lol!
In all honesty I am doing a few extra loops after the drop off.

it's fine, follow the usual rules. Let it come up to temp before any real load. for me, that's usually 3k or above.

Just did 60 miles on Sunday around lovely country roads whilst waiting for my daughter to finish her drama class!

I asked a similar questions a while back as im in the same position. My trip to work is under 5 miles and the temp needle doesn't even move.

I allow the car the to complete cold start and then drive off, dont go anything over 2.5K.

I've been advised that it is ok, as long as i give the car a little run a couple of days in the week. Should be fine and you shouldn't face any issues, mine has been spot on and i have been doing this for a couple of months now.
