downpipe install questions
I have a set of AMS catless downpipes I plan on installing this week. Is there anyone on here that has done the install? how long does it take? on a scale of 1-5 how hard was it? also, did you change the gaskets? if so, between the turbo and dp or between the dp and exhaust?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks |

scale=2.5 its recommended to change the the gaskets my car only had 4k miles on it and the gaskets were in good shape so we didn't . they are pretty cheap to get though if you decide to. I installed the catted version you are catless that will give you more wiggle room for placement, that was the hardest part to do. my shop guy also has a lift that would definitely make it easier. I would not even consider doing without a lift. |

According to what I've seen, a lift is not needed at all since the only thing you are doing from the bottom is removing the 4 nuts attaching to the midpipes and the rest of the job is from up top. |

You can do it without the lift. It just makes it so much easier to be able and stand up I'm sure, It also has other benefits to lift to inspect the underside of vehicle and be amazed at the quality and craftsmanship it took to build and take a few snapshots under there.

we also took one of underpanels off to make it easier to get to the bolts on the exhaust/downpipe coupling.

as for the gaskets. I would replace them. they are crush gaskets and only good for single use.

decided to tackle the job tonight and it took me longer then expected. i suggest to anyone who is going to do this to make sure they get an o2 socket first and a magnet would help so you don't loose screws as many are in tight places. I ended up using my old gaskets because the car only has 11k miles and they looked brand new. I lost one of the nuts holding the mid pipe to the flange, so I have to get one and do that tomorrow. Took it for a ride and the car sounds 100% different.

Can someone explain how the gasket ring goes onto the midpipe?
I see you explained that in 12a but I thought there was only 1 gasket, now I'm realizing theres two and I did not mess with it... I ended up having fitment issues with the driver side but just blamed it on the downpipe. Could this have been because of the gasket being in the wrong spot? This is the gasket i'm talking about: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...h/18307843213/ |

The flat gasket slide onto the downpipe first then the sealing ring slides on afterwards. These must be fitted to the downpipe not the midpipe otherwise you will have trouble getting them together.

I used an exhaust jack to push the midpipe back into the downpipe... oops. Might have really f***d that sealing ring. I ordered some new ones.
