The point of the post was to show that the GTR is a far better performance automobile.... BMW limited M5 top speed to ~155mph vs 195mph for the GTR, go long enough and the GTR will win. I love the way you guys think, ya if this and this and this and this then the M5 win. The world will not wait for you, a well driven awd car with less power will beat an M5 from light to light and in other scenarios as well. Forget the GTR, the M5 is too far handicapped to beat a GTR.... |

There are modded GTRs running 7s in the 1/4, one just went into the 6s. How quick does an M5 run in the 1/4? Dont even go there. The GTR is a purpose built performance car, the M5 is an upgraded 5-series with a chassis that can't keep up with the motor... LOL |

I'd say probably another 40-50k and you'd be deep deep 7s reliability would drop significantly, but still probably get plenty of reliability. With 09s-12s going for sub 60k USD, and some 09s hitting high 40s USD, you'd be about 140k USD in mods and car to redo an 09. That said comparing it to what 13'/12 m6's go for nowadays almost 30s, their is no comparison to the costs for each respective build, that said their power is far from comparable when builds are invoked. |

The M5 has 1 car in the 9s. The GTR has multiple cars in the 7s and 8s. GTR has hits 9s on stock turbos, M5 has not. Not in the same league, regardless of price $$ |

You are correct though as its an apples to oranges comparison, and really the only reason a comparison is even attempting to be made is how well these cars [and I'd also include other sedans like the C63s, and RS7] do from a roll. So inevitably people will try to compare. GTR owners do the same though trying to compare their cars at the track to factory built promods/ all out drag cars, their is equally no comparison to them, despite how well they can get 7/8 second power down on the street. When it comes to the track, America is king. What it really comes down to is reliability. Putting 50k in a GTR with AMS, T1 Race Dev., Boostin', a few of the top tier shops, 50k in mods and 50-60k car you have an 8 second car and very very good reliability baring freak accident, or just bad luck which can happen at that power. Thats the GTR strong suit, at least my time with the car. 46k miles and I had maybe 2ishk of out of pocket repairs and around 50k the new owner did some maintenance in the 2k range, that was missed as I detailed in another thread. Which to me for all those miles the power it was making 193 in the half, and 9.18 on 18'' Radials you really can't beat having 4k outta pocket repairs over 3 years [2k of which were from R888 drivetrain shock on the trans]. Difficult to really compare these two cars IMO; both great cars in their own right.
If you want a purpose built machine buy a GTR and if you want a luxurious 4 door euro sedan that moves buy an ///M; or f-ck it, buy them both.

I did multiple pulls against a 2010 FBO GTR over the weekend. At 50 mph and up, my M5 would take down mighty Godzilla. Although I would get some wheel spin at 50, it was nothing like 40 and lower. I need more traction and looking to move to Toyo 888r's when my tires need replacing.
The GTR sounded amazing, looked awesome, and the traction was crazy good. It's a point-and-shoot car that produces consistent results nearly every time. The videos of our races in Mexico are in a private group on Facebook. Not sure how to get those over here. Any suggestions? |
