Honestly, if they could figure out how to drop the weight down to ~3500lbs, I wouldn't be opposed to using an uprated S65 engine and a DCT as the drivetrain.

Brakes color matched to the body would be a nice touch.

I think this could realistically happen:

3,800 pound weight
550hp TT V8
DCT and Manual option trans
More aggressive bodywork
Less driving "options" (just a regular, sport and maybe track option)

If they reign the weight in and keep all the classic bmw driving aspects the car is going to be fantastic.

I want it to beat the panamera turbo. The panamera recently went 2 seconds quicker than the cts-v on the ring!

Yeah, but who cares? It's not like they listen anyway. They're going to do what they want. How many people did you see asking for a 5 GT or M versions of the X5&6? How many hate them?

I'm hoping to see a power output of at least 535hp/400+ ft lb
0-60 in under 4.3, maybe a redline of at least 8400???

I'm also anxious to see what monster BM will put under the bonnet, although I'm abit skeptical that a forced induction engine is to be expected......
If they managed to squeeze 360 horses out of the e46 CSL's 3.2, I don't even want to imagine what the f10 engine will be capable of...

I figure I'd just get a feel for what people really want out of the new F10, and more specifically the F10 M5.

I remember a long time ago there was a thread on VWvortex about what people would want out of a special edition GTi/Jetta, after pages and pages of posts talking about BBS wheels, Joey-modded headlights, 1.8T engine mated with the 6-spd gearbox. It seemed like the folks at VW-NA just made a list of what everyone wanted and created a product based on those wishes. Hence, the 20th AE GTi, the 337 edition, and the Jetta GLI were born.

I doubt what is said on here has much pull, but one can always hope...

I guess I'll start with what my wishes for the F10 M5 are:

Exterior:

- Exterior needs to be sexier than the E63 (I think that will be EZ)
- I'd like more wheel arch than I've been seeing on the test mules as well.
- Other than that I think BMW is doing a great job. (from what I've seen)
- Carbon roof or Panoramic roof as options would be nice
- Bright "angel eyes" unlike the dim E92 ones and have them run as DRL

Interior:

- I hope the next iDrive will blow my mind (I'm coming from an '07 iDrive)
-Bigger screen + Faster response + more features
- I hope there is internet connectivity
- I hope there is the new style of rear seat entertainment with access to aformentioned internet.
- I would like to have a suede headliner, heated/cooled/dynamic/massage seats.
- Rear seats would be nice if they were somewhat adjustable or cooled
- Color options including: dual-tone Black'n'White or Red
- Adjustable ambient lighting would be nice (I believe the new S-class can change the interior ambient lights to various different colors.)

Technology:

- I want Dynamic Cruise Control with Stop-N-Go
- Dynamic suspension/throttle adjustments through iDrive
- Faster shifting than the E60 M5
- Lane deparature detection
- Blind-Spot detection
- Rear-view camera w/ BMW's calculated path projection on screen
- Rear+Side shades
- Night Vision (if it works well)

Engine:

- V10 TT w/ 600+hp (If not V10, then as long as its TT)

Performance:

- Out perform the E60 M5 and the new E63 AMG in every aspect
- 0-60 mph if 4.0 seconds or faster would be nice as well

I hope it comes out in Frankfurt so that I can finally see what we've all been waiting for. I'm also hoping we can get a pretty good idea of the launch date so I can goto my dealer and put the $1,000 down to get on the waiting list for it. (Assuming it comes out alright)

Well those are just a few things I'd like to see out of it. What about you guys?
All the things I bolded are things I'd hate to see on the next M5. My car doesn't have any of the bolded, and I love it. All of the bolded just add unnecessary weight. The M5 is currently a drivers car and it should stay one

A car must be driven by you, not the other way round.

Let me start by stating the reason for which I included these options in the mix. I recently drove the 2010 M-B E550 and it had those features, and I'm sure the E63 will/does as well. My favorite feature was the Stop-and-Go Distronic Cruise Control, but the lane and blind spot detection was a pretty nice "AID".

I just want the F10 to have all of the "OPTIONS" and then some. Because I want it to be able to beat the E63 in every way, also some people like these functions.

Side note: It is absolutely not MORE dangerous. People are still required to check their blind spots physically before moving into the next lane, it's called a Driver's-AID.

I agree with everyone on there needing to be a CSL model I think it would be awesome to have a 'more' track-oriented sedan. Just because as it sits (in street-trim the M5 is indeed a "track-worthy" sedan, but it was never meant to be a raw corner carver (If you want that (from the factory) just get a GT3)...

The M5 was meant to be a daily drive-able, hard hitting, autobahn slayer, while maintaining the utmost comfort and feeling for the road as well as showcasing the newest technology from the marque.

So I don't agree with people saying to get rid of all the electronics and goto manual seats. That's not at all what the M5 is about. I won't say I wouldn't like there to be a "raw" version of the M5. Heck... My M3 right now is on a really strict diet and she has most of the electronics pulled (no TC/ASR/ABS) as well as full-manual bucket seats etc... But for a new generation of M5, why wouldn't BMW showcase its technological wisdom?

To anyone that says they want an M5 without the electronics, weight, creature comforts. Why don't you just go ahead and dish out the $85k-90k on a base M5 and strip it of these things. Make it your own beast of an M5. You'll have a much faster, much better handling M5 that will smoke mine at the track. I admit it, I'll probably envy your car. But at the end of the day, I'll be cruising home with my butt-cooler on, getting a massage from my seats while blasting some tunes through Logic7 or whatever...

I also agree with people saying that the new M5 needs to get lighter. I'm sure BMW will figure out a way to make the car lighter while still adding more tech. to it.

No matter how many features BMW adds to the M5 it will always maintain that M-car feeling. The connection between driver/car/road will always stay true to its roots.

Also, for people who say they want the V8TT instead of a V10(TT), you can't honestly say that you care about fuel mileage if you are even flitering with the idea of buying an M5...

Bottom Line: I would like a 600+hp V10TT M5 as a daily driver. For weekends I'd like a GT3 (RS) or eventually maybe even a Scud/360CS or something along those lines (as they become more attainable...)

I would also like them to keep it N/A as long as its faster than the E60. But I picked V10TT because of the rumors.

I don't think BMW will put the exact same engine as the X5M or X6M. What's the point of it, utilizing the same engine in all the M series? THe next M5 BMW will make will raise the current bar of the M5. It will have at least minimum of 600HP or 650HP.

Mercedes does this with the 6.3 V8, its in every AMG product except the V12 models in different HP ratings. Since BMW is becoming more MB like (see the new Z4), this would not be strange. Plus like it or not that engine is probably capable of more than enough power (600-650) so as not to need a whole new design, I just wish the M group would use the engine development savings on large scale weight reduction.
As much as it may hurt it seems the M concept is evolving, the inevitable reality of keeping up with current reality and marketing strategies necessary to survive.

Having just sold my 2008 M5 - I would add a bigger tank. Having to refuel every 200 miles is a pain. I know this adds weight - but 4 more gallons would do wonders

1) Less weight
2) Twin Turbos with lots of torque down low. V8 for sexier sounds
3) Keep prices reasonable, I mean closer to cts-v than 911 Turbo
4) Improve fuel economy...
5) High Tech inside and out
6) Forged lightweight rims
7) 0-60 under 4 seconds.

Agreed with all about the weight, hopefully less than 1500kg (even though I doubt that'll happen or even be possible).

Others:

- Proper 7 speed (or 8 speed?) DCT tranny
- Engine incorporating Valvetronic with direct fuel injection and maybe dry sump lubrication. I'm a bit meh regarding turbos.
- It doesn't need the highest amount of power or torque, but it does need a high RPM limit and the highest power/weight and torque/weight ratios in its segment.
- Flexible, meaning racecar when you want it to be, relaxed (sort of) family car when you want it to be.

Not bothered about much else.
