Best year for F10 M5 Engine longevity?

I'm in the market for a used F 10 M5 and I've been searching for almost 2 months for the right one. I am frankly concerned with the amount of engine failures I've encountered through sellers. And it seems that at least one 1 out of every 5 I'm interested in has had some history of engine failure. Did they clear it up by 2015/2016? Seems like majority are 2013/14

Don't believe there were any engine changes in for the F10 M5, all S63TU. F90 had updates, S63TU2.

Someone else mentioned you don't see a lot of threads on 15/16s because they are still covered under BMW warranty, give it time.

You can still find a 16 with BMW warranty

Partway through MY14 they put in a new version of the injectors, and it at least seems like after MY13 there are less issues with oil consumption, but other than that, not much. Because the changes are small, the care of the vehicle is going to be much more important to longevity than the particular year, imo.

Same from late '11 in Europe and Canada then '13 in US,continuing with the F90 with small component changes but basically the same configuration with smaller intercoolers.
*to add eu6 injectors from '14 and slight ecu changes did not make the engine any more reliable. Ex lease cars with uncaring owners with skipped or delayed oil changes and too quick warm up procedures are the biggest risk.

I agree, how it's used plays a big part. Not too hard, not too gentle.
if you baby the car it will probably have issues because of buildup etc.
I never rev my car above 3000rpm before the oil temp needle has started climbing from the 70 degrees C mark. Oil changes every 10.000km, not 25.000km that BMW states.

I guess you tend to hear about the failures as well, not the ones that is fine.
Haven't seen production numbers, but I assume BMW had made around 100.000 of these cars, and the engine is also used in the M6 & X5/6M probably making the total number over 300.000 units.

A 2014 would be my choice. I own a 2014 non-LCI with a stage 1.5 tune and 90K miles. Car still runs like it's brand new.

I've been changing the oil at 3500 and 5000 miles since 40k miles. Prior to that, BMW changed the oil at 10K mile intervals.

I use mine in town regularly and if you know inner London it's the worst place for any fuel car with motorist hating lefty councils installing measures regularly to do away with cars eventually. When I drive out of the hell hole I give it a burst of speed to clear the cylinders and exhausts.

Blaxwil what flash did you go with. I'm considering flashing my car towards the end of my warranty. Seems BootMod3 is hit or miss. I see a lot of high mileage M5's and wasnt sure if they were flashed or not (trying to determine correlation between flashed vs non-flashed and issues with the motor like rod bearings etc).
